Previously, in Part 1 of the Free Traffic series, we discussed some of the little things that help make our sites, or blogs and articles, more search engine friendly so we could get a higher ranking and therefore more free traffic. In this article, Part 2 in the series, we are going to talk about email capture pages, also known as squeeze pages, subscriber lists, and newsletters.

Email capture pages/squeeze pages are often overlooked, disregarded, or ignored completely by web marketers for various reasons. This is a huge mistake. Email capture pages are important for the following reasons. First, getting someones name, email address, and sometimes phone number allows you to contact them and ask permission to establish a dialog with them, by this I mean ask their permission to offer your services to them now and in the future.

It gives you the ability to create the “personal touch” in your communications with them. The personal touch builds trust and loyalty. In case you don’t know, trust and loyalty are all important in any relationship. Plus, your email contacts that you have established a relationship with will tell their friends, who will tell their friends and soon your list will spiral out of control. But, only if you are being honest with your email list and giving them information they can actually use.

The pros are, if your newsletter is good, it could become viral explode into thousands of subscribers in a very short time. This will obviously increase your profits. In addition to this, you will keep yourself current and therefore ahead of the average Joe competitor in what’s hot and what’s not.

The cons are that you will have to work on the newsletter everyday of the week. You will have to do tons of research in order to provide your subscribers with the newest, and the best, information. And you will have less time to work on your personal business. So, if you choose to do a newsletter, and you should, say goodbye to a lot of your free time.

There is something I should add about newsletters that you will want to know. DON’T EVER, EVER, EVER pressure your subscribers to buy anything from you. Instead, offer them your recommendations on products you BELIEVE will help their business! BE HONEST! Also you should avoid recommending products with a time limit on them. Or products you feel might be over-priced. Those kinds of offering could damage the trust you have with your subscribers. I know that you see time limits or “a limited number of” whatever in just about every newsletter you receive, but how do you feel when things arrive in your newsletters that have a time limit on them or you can’t afford? Well, your subscriber feels the same way you do. They will buy more from you in the long run if you do not use the “sense of urgency” methods.

Here is the golden rule, “when your subscribers profit, you profit!” Ensure that all your recommendations are trustworthy and honest. Purchase the products you are going to recommend. Use them, test them. If they are good products, offer them to your subscribers.

Also, tell your subscribers what you are doing. Keep them up with what is going on in your research. For instance, if you are testing xyz product let your subscribers know that you are testing xyz product so they won’t buy it until you recommend it to them. In this way you keep your subscribers safe from “scams, shams and deceptions” and you also build rock solid trust with your subscribers, which will ensure their loyalty to you. So you have to spend a little more than you would like on products, in the long run it will only benefit you and increase your net profits. Your subscribers will often buy products on your recommendation alone, whether they need the product or not. Start checking out other newsletters, see what they have to offer and improve upon it.
