Having a website is very important. Using the online technology available to us can really boost your website statistics. The better your website statistics, the money money you should be making with your website.

Don’t use technology for bad business practices. There is a lot of technology out there to use for your advantage. Don’t over do it. Some companies go as far as; using a computer program to profile guests. If a guest is good or bad. This way the company will know who they are dealing with up front. In my opinion, this is taking technology a bit too far.

As I have said before, use mobile technology. Especially if you don’t have the time to spend in front of your computer all day. Most business people can’t afford to be at the office all day. Their job requires them to always be on the run. Some people work two or more jobs. You need to have a mobile device, whether it be laptop, PDA, cell phone or whatever you are comfortable with using. You will be able to send and receive email, faxes, files, and important messages. There should be no excuse for you telling a customer you need to get back to the office and you get back to them. Although, even I have done this recently. We have to break the bad habit of not being mobile. Today’s technology thrives on our businesses being mobile.

Use web 2.0, it’s very beneficial. Use social media networks to improve your businesses database of customers. Myspace, facebook, delicious, digg, so many more social networks to make you and your business well known. You can post comments, messages, vidoes, and blogs. Web 2.0 is all about making friends. You make friends and your friends trust you more. Then they are more likely to buy your products or service. People tend to buy from who they trust. Then it’s all about word of mouth through the social community. It works great!

Make sure you have an easily navigated website. Don’t use anything on your website that will contradict what you are selling. Make sure all the information; including ad space is something you would use and recommend. Make sure you have good, quality content on your website. You need to have something to draw people in. Try and offer them a reason to visit your website.

A blog about you and your business will really help shape your business. A blog can make your page rank higher. A Blog will also be more likely to raise your rank in search engines. Search engines find new content. So the more you blog, the more likely people will find your website. Create a newsletter you send out by email. Your customer base will be more likely to return if you have a newsletter.

Spend money on technology to upgrade, not waste. You spend money on all kinds of important things to keep your business going. Don’t upgrade with technology only when it is necessary. Upgrade with technology whenever you can. A business just starting out should be overwhelmed with technology. People seem to have the attitude that they don’t need anything new. The truth is, everyday new products come out to make our lives easier.

When you spend money on your business, don’t think of it as losing money. Every bit of money you spend on new technology is money well spent. Don\’t be A Vanilla Wafer, Specialized Products Can be Your Best Seller

Online business is operated so differently from brick and mortar businesses in some ways, but customers tend to respond the same no matter where they are shopping. Everyone should understand the customers mentality because everyone has been a consumer at least a few times in just the past couple of days.

Product that appeals to the masses may seem like your safest bet in making big sales. Though it sounds like a fool proof plan, it is flawed in so many ways. In today\’s day and age not many people have time to buy something, we\’ll say software, that was developed for the masses. Then sit around for hours sifting through all of the information that does not apply to them. It wastes time and frustrates the buyer.

The generic product is the Vanilla Wafer of merchandise. No matter who you know, how old they may be, or where they are from, everyone will eat a Vanilla Wafer. Is it their favorite cookie ever? Most likely not. If you could choose between a Vanilla Wafer or a triple chocolate chip cookie with walnuts, 99 out or 100 people are going to choose the triple chocolate chip cookie with walnuts. It\’s not because the Vanilla Wafer isn\’t good, but it\’s so generic, there is not much attraction to the cookie, it was made to appeal to the masses. The height of it\’s popularity is in Daycares, and even that position is getting taken over by the animal cracker. Let\’s face it, there just isn\’t anything specialized about the vanilla wafer.

Just like cookies, consumers want specialized product. When people go shopping they want the software that deals with their needs. If are developing a program for authors, make the content relevant to them, do not try and squish in information for bloggers. After you have chosen your special market, and zoomed in on the consumer base you will focus on, you then pick a side. Others will absolutely hate your product and they will tell their friends. This may sound bad, but that is not so. Their friends may have different needs than the haters, they may think your product a perfect fit for them. The fact is, your product is getting spread by word of mouth and that is the best advertisement you can have. Your product will be the triple chocolate chip cookie of the online marketing business.

Keep in mind that the Vanilla Wafer never started a controversy, it is not sold in the specialty cookie stores, nor is it served at special dinners. Though generic has an appealing safety net ring to it, does not make it the best. Be the gourmet of your chosen niche product. Make peoples mouths water when they see your product, the perfect unique fit for their needs.

1. When Starting Anything New - Start With A Small Investment.

There\’s always the risk of losing money. Even top level copywriters don\’t have winning ads every time. Sometimes just a simple change, a word or two, makes all the difference to get the results you want. Your marketing audience is not perfect so there is no such thing as a perfect ad. That\’s why it\’s prudent to limit your risk when starting any new marketing campaign.

2. Test, Test, Test!!

Stop blindly following gurus. You are the only expert in your test results. Try different headlines; shorter, longer, different content. Sometimes the length of your ad copy makes a big difference. Test short concise against longer more descriptive ads. Try something besides the written ad like audio or video or all three together. The more ways you can reach a persons mind the better. Test different squeeze pages. For every ad group always run 2 ads on Adwords. Test different offers, like “try before you buy”. You may also want to test telephone follow-up. Just test everything you do!

3. Do Something Different!

Look at everyone and everything in your marketplace. Don\’t be a “business as usual” kind of person. Look for something that makes you unique from the rest. Compare the benefits and services of your product with theirs, cross off all that are the same and see what\’s left. If there\’s nothing left, then you may need to brainstorm with ideas to add to yours to make if better/different for your market.

4. Buyers Only Ads!

Write your ads to your niche audience and not to everyone who visits your site. A 100% buying rate is not achievable! Most of the time a 1% conversion rate is acceptable. Sometimes if you hit a really hot market it can be up to 10%, which is very good. So writing to the 90% who are just lookers is not what you want to do. Even if those 90% don\’t like what you write, it doesn\’t matter, as long as the 1%-10% DO like it and take action.

5. Start At The End!

Not really! But try to have your next offer - your backend offer - ready before your first one is ready. Are you starting with a CD or an ebook? Think about affiliate offers or joint ventures with others as a backend offer. Repeat business and backend sales is where the real money is. If you HAVE to make money from one product, it destroys your marketing ability. How can you compete with a competitor who is breaking even or losing money on his advertising and still make a living with the same offer?

6. Your Net Worth Is Determined By Your Network.

Some of the keys to your online business are: viral marketing, referrals, social networking, strategic alliances, etc. Most of the time trying to “go it alone” won\’t work. After you select a domain name that is relevant to the product that you are selling, it is time to come up with a title for your website. The title is also important to the search engines when determining a sites relevance. I personally would title my site “Handbags for the Sophisticated Woman”. Once again, handbags is the first word in the title, just as it is the first word in the domain name. Just these two steps with related content would probably get your site top ten search results for sophisticated handbags and hand bags for a woman, maybe, but we are only at step two.

After you pick a title for your website you want to build your websites content around the keyword hand bags. If you have an online store selling handbags, include detailed product descriptions in links off of each product page. Have a couple of senetences explaining the product followed by details linked to another page with details about the specific product. This adds even more relevance to the content of your site. Give your site a clean look without a lot of bells and whistles. Remember that if someone has typed handbags into a search engine, chances are they are looking to buy one or atleast think about it seriously. They don\’t want to see a bunch of silly animations or your favorite song playing in the background. Cute is great for MySpace but not so great when it comes to being taken seriously as a legitimate business online.

Another thing to keep in mind is that breaking your site up into categories will always help with the keyword saturation and getting you listed higher for different keywords and phrases. I am not going to break down an SEO strategy here because this is just basic information but if you use your brain, you will be suprised where the thought takes you. blue handbags, suede handbags, leather handbags, and colorful handbags are some examples of possible categores. Then in each category with the product description every once in a while throw in a this suede handbag or this blue handbag, so on and so forth.

After you have your website built, it is time to get the word out. The internet has provided an endless array of possibilities, the best of which are viral marketing methods. Viral marketing starts with you but it is carried and expanded upon by others. One great way to use viral marketing is by submitting useful content to article directories. This helps build your status as an expert, but it also does something else. If you submit good content that educates people then chances are the content will get picked up by other web masters. Now keep in mind that you do not want to advertise your business directly. Instead you want to educate and in doing so advertise indirectly. Most article directories allow you to include a resource box with the content that you submit. If webmasters want to use your content, they must also include your resource box. This builds your page rank by listing links to your site on other sites throughout the Internet. The higher your page rank and the more incoming links you have to your website, the better you will rank for the keywords specific to your business if they are contained within the content of your site.

If you were to spend two hours a day creating quality unique content and submitting it to article directores for an entire year, you would be amazed with the traffic that this effort would bring to your site. Remember, with the Internet, the effort that you put into it now will keep on working for you for the rest of your life.

Another great way to get the word out about your business is by submitting a press release. This provides a news item for the media and believe it or not, but a well written press release can not only build page rank for the long term, but it can drive immediate traffic to your website. i recommend learning everything that you can about writing an effective press release and taking the time to create a good one.

So many people want instant success and this is only a brief example of what you could do to build an effective online business. Today will turn into next week and next week will turn into next year. If you are serious about building a sky is the limit income using the Internet, develop a plan and follow it with focus and determination. Realize that anything worth while takes time and be patient. when you feel like giving up, take a break and come back to it when you are more motivated. It may take you a year to build the firm foundation of a successful online business, but this effort will pay off for a life time.
