Why Music Downloading Sites Must Allow Users To Listen To Music Free

As every good marketer knows, the real value is in the upsell: it’s much easier to sell something to someone you’ve sold to already. So if you get people ’sold’ on the basic music service - which must be free - then you can try to leverage that audience. But if you try and offer a lower-quality basic (free) service, the audience will either leave or not come in the first place - because there are sites already out there that offer a great user experience without the user having to pay a dime.

Music Downloading Sites - What Will People Pay For?

It has been previously noted that despite the huge volume of traffic to sites such as Yahoo! Music and Rhapsody, subscription revenues in this arena remain remarkably low. But why is this? The casual listener might point out that the main advantage sites like Pandora and Last.fm have over Yahoo’s Radio Stations is the absence of ad breaks. There is a huge difference between having even one short ad every half hour and no ads at all. So you have to ask - which one would the consumer choose? Which one will help to grow audience share?

An added-value premium subscription could succeed if a number of important criteria are fulfilled. What would it need to provide?

  • - value and perceived value ($6 a month isn’t much, but why not $4.99?)
  • - access to additional artwork
  • - access to higher-quality downloads
  • - plus some unique promotional angles - for example…

Other ways to develop value for music fans: Discounts on CD purchases, discounts on concert and festival tickets, priority booking for high-demand concerts. This last feature could sell a site on its own - if you sign up knowing that you’ll never miss another sold-out concert again (because you were too slow with your credit card) that will make you eager to join, and happy to stay joined. Members could select the artists they are interested in reserving this option for, and in which location(s). There is obvious long-term value in being a member of such a site, especially if the primary service of digital music provision is up to scratch.

The person who buys the most albums per year is the one who is seriously into their music, the one who seeks out new and interesting work by obscure (or less-than-mainstream) artists - not the one who gets their tunes from the top 40. The fact that the dedicated music-listener often buys a single album (and almost never buys singles) from a huge number of different artists means that none of these artists tend to sell enough to attract industry attention. However, the combined spend of these dedicated music fans is probably much higher than many people think. It won’t touch the short-term cash influx of a major chart hit, but this is a valuable audience nonetheless, and will not be inclined to use a music site that has Britney Spears videos and Shakira gossip plastered over its home page.

If you are a web site owner as well, here are five new steps that can help you utilize audio streaming for greater traffic:

1. Make visitors’ stay an enjoyable one by creating a welcoming atmosphere upon their arrival. It might help to upload a pre-recorded voice greeting, or a pop-up that thanks them for checking your site out. You might even try to get a TV or movie personality to record the greeting for you, if you have contact with one.

Should You Be Using Audio Streaming In Your Internet Business Model?

Do conversion rates on your squeeze page go up or down with audio?

How about your sales page, do conversion rates go up or down with audio?

And just because your squeeze page conversions go up, that doesn’t mean your sales page conversions will too – or vice versa.

Each page stands on its own, and without testing each page, you are only making guesses.

Sure, as you are in the business for longer, your guesses should get better and better – but it is not necessarily always the case that your best guess will be the best option.

So test everything you do, before you make a final and concluding decision.

Another thing to remember is that different types of audio might be better for different page.

For example, on your squeeze page, you might have an audio telling someone why opting in is a good thing.

On your sales page, you might want to have audio of various satisfied customers’ testimonials.

Although the basic premise with which I am working here is that audio streaming is a good thing and can add revenue to your bottom line, the most important thing to remember is that testing trumps everything else.

If you are not testing, you have no idea if something is working for you or not.

You see, just because it works for someone else, doesn’t mean it will work for you. And there is only one way to find out if it will work for you – do it and test it.

But in all cases, don’t just guess – test instead!

Does Audio Really Help in Boosting You Sales?

You might have seen a lot of ‘expert’ internet marketers preaching newbies to put up audios on their site. And then it happens: every Joe and his mother puts up a podcast on their own sites in the hope of making more money. But, do you think audios really work? In this article, I am going to give you some ‘insider secrets’ on how to use audios effectively. If you don’t know these secrets, I can guarantee that you will be doing things wrongly and your audios will become ineffective.

1. The Internet, A Cold Place: Internet is essentially a cold, dry place. Sometimes I get really tired reading tons and tons of sales pages that are put up everyday. Sometimes I just skim through the sales pages to get to the ‘Order’ button’. You might have done this too. However, the websites that really get me interested are those that have some form of ‘warm’ media, such as audio or video. But of course, there are a lot more reasons why you should put audios on your website.

2. Why There is Music in The Mall? I don’t know if you have ever noticed when walking into any large shopping mall, but more often than not, there is some music playing in the background. Why do you think that the mall owners put up music in their shop? Music not only creates an air of ambience and peace, it also boosts ‘visitor stickiness’. So if you are in the mall for a long time, chances are that it is because of the sweet music that is being played in the background.

3. Get your customers to SPEAK: Chances are that you have your own products to sell. It is not hard to find out every average Joe and Jane coming up with brand new products. After all, creating a product is so easy. Now, if you have your own product, chances are that you also solicit testimonials from your customers, right? Why not ask them to submit an audio testimonial? Especially in internet marketing, where there are so many ‘fake’ testimonials that ‘gurus’ giveaway simply to have their name and website listed on every page of the world wide web, text testimonials don’t always give the kind of social proof that customers need to buy your product. This is especially true if you are selling high ticket items. Adding an audio testimonial gives an authentic voice to your sales letter and motivates the customer to buy your product immediately without seeking for further ‘product reviews’.

4. Does Audio Work With Blogs? You can add all sorts of content in your blog, one among them being podcasts. Simply put, podcasts are audio versions of your ‘text post’. Suppose that you are in a hurry and don’t have the time you need to write a post. So why not record your voice and host the audio on your blog? Not only is it easy to get high rankings in search engines with podcasts, your subscribers will come to know more about you and your personality. This will further help in boosting your subscribers’ response to your offers!
