An immune system is nothing but a group of mechanism present within every living organism that further helps in protecting against any disease by recognizing and killing tumor cells. In simple terms our immune system is mechanism to fight against germs and infections. The best part of any immune system is it has the ability of detecting wide range of virus that can cause disease. Made up from cells and tissues, this system actually defends people against germs and micro-organisms every day. The cells that play a major role in this system and considered as the most vital are part of this defense system are white blood cells, also known as leukocytes. These cells destroy the organisms or substances that cause disease. Apart from this liver, bone marrow, and thymus are other main components in immune structure that plays significant role in improving your health.
Now it is also important to understand that every day our bodies constantly fight a battle against germs, virus and so it becomes very important to boost your body\’s immune system. Moreover, it is the strength of our this immune structure that makes the difference between one who get sick and who doesn\’t. As per recent studies, it has been found that foods and nutrients like Vitamin C & E, Garlic, Carotenoids and Zinc helps in strengthening the immune function. Always make sure to eat or drink a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, whole and fortified grains, and dairy products. Protein is again the next vital building element for a healthy mind, and immune structure. Having a heavy diet but low in protein directly disturbs the blood sugar level, stress the pancreas and immune system.

In addition to this nutrition experts have also proposed on having as many minerals as possible through food, rather than through supplements. This is because the body mostly sucks up nutrients from food more successfully. Be careful of any supplement, no matter if it promises to boost immunity. Moreover you should also note that certain lifestyle changes can also boost your immune function. Make sure to have at least 6 to 8 hours sleep everyday, this is because deep sleep energizes your ability to resist bacterial or viral infection. Having 6 to 8 hours sleep further aids in balancing hormone levels, improving your mood and keeping healthy skin.
Apart from this some research have also shows that doing a moderate exercise also help in improving immune function. You must understand that keeping a healthy weight can result to a damaged immune system. Exercising for at least half-an hour stimulates the immune system and aids with weight reduction. In addition to this if you are a chain smoker then quit smoking as soon as possible. Smoking directs to lung cancers, and weakens the function of immune structure. As per recent observation it has also been found that when smokers quit, ability to resist viral or bacterial disease begins to improve within 20 to 30 days.

Everyday, our body gets exposed to various bacteria, virus and parasites and if our immune system does not have proper supply of nutrients or proper rest then it could lead to devastating side-effects. Most transferable agents enters inside the body when we inhale or swallow, so today it has become very important to have healthy immune system to live a healthy life.

Foot Reflexology

Find Foot Reflexology Training in the United States and Canada. If the agony of “the feet” has been getting on your last nerve, then foot reflexology will not only help soothe and relieve your aching heels and soles, it also lends to restoring balance back to the body. As an ancient healing art, foot reflexology is based on the theory that areas of the feet correspond to all bodily systems.

In foot reflexology, specific pressure is applied to “reflex areas”, which in affect, results in stress reduction by using thumb, finger and hand methods. Promoting natural healing, additional benefits of foot reflexology include stress and anxiety relief, and feelings of overall wellbeing.

Foot reflexology restores natural balance and is known to revitalize patients; however, it is not intended as a curative agent. Currently, this holistic healing art is valuable in determining high stress or tension areas in the body; and because many health conditions and diseases are stress related, foot reflexology could prove to be a promising complementary treatment in modern times.

Both individuals and certified massage therapists find that courses in foot reflexology are not only great for personal use, but are beneficial to enhancing any professional massage practice. Typically, classes in foot reflexology vary in duration, but can be completed in as little as a few weeks’ time, or for more in-depth training, over 60 hours. Some foot reflexology classes are offered to the public through holistic workshops and seminars, and as continuing education or elective courses in massage schools.

Furthermore, there are a growing number of reflexology schools that strictly train in this particular discipline and result in a certificate of completion or diploma. Generally, (hand, ear and foot) reflexology training includes studies in mind and body medicines, stress reduction methods, how to map the foot (or hands, ears) anatomy, reflex systems, among other subject matter.

If you (or someone you know) are interested in finding foot reflexology training, let professional education within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore career school programs near you.

Control Blood Sugar and Blood Pressure With Natural Herbal Remedy

High blood pressure is a condition that has the potential to be quite a health risk. Therefore, it is essential for anyone suffering from high blood pressure to follow the advice a health care professional or a qualified naturopath before relying entirely on remedies other than prescription drugs. Similarly, for controlling blood sugar, while you may try alternative remedies, you should always take your doctor’s advice about reducing the intake of (or stopping) prescription drugs.

Silymarin for blood sugar - Antioxidants are known to be beneficial in controlling blood sugar. Silymarin, (silybum marianum) a herbal extract taken from the seeds of Milk Thistle, has wonderful antioxidant properties that work in this manner. By taking Silymarin, you can reduce your blood sugar levels quite significantly. Silymarin contains the active ingredients called flavolignans, which help the liver from poisoning. They also are believed to help in controlling Type 2 Diabetes, although the exact mechanism as to how they do it is still not clear.

Mulberry leaf Morus - mulberry leaf is chock full of Vitamin A and the B family of vitamins. It also contains pectin, adenine and choline. Chinese make and consume ’sugar control herbal tea’ made from morus, green tea and jasmine in order to control blood sugar levels.

Vaccinium berries - Herbs that include huckleberries, blueberries and bilberries belong to the genus Vaccinium. Bilberries are rich in antioxidants and are said to control blood sugar levels. Both the leaves and the fruit of the bilberry herb have long been in use for the treatment of diabetes. However, as the leaves do impair the normal working of the liver when used for a long time, it is better not to use the bilberry leaves at all. But the berries of the bilberry herb are very useful, even if they may not actually lower the blood sugar levels. They are good in protecting the blood vessels from the damaging effects of diabetes and other diseases.

Neem leaves - Extracts from neem leaves and bitter gourd, it is believed, help in controlling blood sugar levels, provided they are consumed on a long term and regular basis.

For controlling blood pressure, you should first take care of your nutrition. Avoiding meat and dairy products will help. In doing so, you can reduce your cholesterol too. Eat an abundance of fruits, especially those kinds that do not aggravate your blood sugar levels, in case you are a diabetic as well.

The best thing that can really work for lowering your blood pressure is drinking a lot of plain water while avoiding consuming soft drinks, particularly those that are processed drinks and those that contain sugar. It is better to avoid coffee as well. The best advantage with water is that it does not produce any side effects at all.

The next thing you can do is to minimize your intake of common salt or sodium. Better yet, just avoid salt altogether in your food. Table salt is processed sodium chloride and is found in high quantities in processed and pre-packaged foods.

If you start with only fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and whole grains, you won’t have a problem lowering your sodium intake. If you cannot avoid salt intake altogether in cooking, you can perhaps use sea salt or “Celtic salt”, whose molecules are quite complex, and so it is not harmful like table salt is. It is also difficult to find low-salt foods at restaurants due to the high volume of prepared and frozen foods they buy before they even begin making your dish in the restaurant.

Following any or all of this advice will help to control blood sugar and blood pressure the natural way.

Herbal Teas As A Remedy For Heartburn And Other Digestive Problems

Teas contain powerful antioxidants called polyphenols that help protect our body from free radical damage. These polyphenols have proven as anti-cancer agents through numerous research. Drinking several cups of pure and fresh tea each day helps reduce the risk of all types of cancer.

However, herbal teas do not come from the same tree plant Camellia Sinensis. Herbal teas are actually infusions called “tisane” that came from various herbs, roots, flowers, as well as other parts of plants. Tisane are not as powerful as polyphenols although they can be very beneficial in other ways.

If you are dealing with a bothering heartburn, you may find that a herbal tea can be very helpful in easing heartburn symptoms as well as other gastrointestinal disorders and of course, acid reflux.

Be careful however on which herbal tea you choose because some teas may actually aggravate rather than relieve your digestive problems. There are herbal teas available that you may want to consider trying to relieve your heartburn or other digestive problem:

Chamomile Tea

A very popular herbal tea remedy for indigestion, PMS, anxiety, heartburn, and sleep disturbances. It helps relieve the inflamed mucus membranes of your digestive tract promoting normal digestion.

Marshmallow Tea

When this tea is taken internally, it is great in easing bladder infections. It coats as well as soothes your gastrointestinal tract. It is good for sore throats and it eases respiratory problems. It also promotes healing of urinary tract.

Peppermint Tea

This tea has a very refreshing brew and has no caffeine. It is believed to ease any stomach as well as digestive problems. The oil in the peppermint leaf is reportedly supposed to stimulate the flow of bile in your stomach. This action relieves gas pains and calms heartburn. This also helps settle an upset stomach and relieve nausea.

Studies have also indicated that drinking peppermint or spearmint can actually cause the lower esophagus sphincter to relax which results in more acid reflux. The lower esophageal sphincter is a one-way valve that separates your esophagus from your stomach allowing food as well as liquid to enter your stomach. When the lower esophagus sphincter is not relaxed, everything you ingested together with the acid can reflux back up into your esophagus This results to more heartburn. Although this is not always the case, it is still recommended to try these herbal teas to see if it works for you. It is certainly a worth to try.

Amazing Antioxidants Stop Free Radicals Causing Diseases

There has been a great deal of publicity given to free radicals and antioxidants, but what are they and how do they affect your health?

Free radicals are unstable oxygen atoms. As you will know, from your high school days, an atom has a nucleus comprised of protons and neutrons, around which electrons circulate. All is well when the electrons are in pairs, but a problem arises when an electron is missing, as with unstable oxygen atoms. These free radicals steal electrons from normal, or stable body cells and set up a chain reaction known as oxidation.

Antioxidants are substances that slow down oxidation in the body caused by free radicals, or to put it more succinctly, antioxidants protect you from free radical damage. Make no mistake about it; antioxidants protect you from some of most serious diseases on earth, such as heart disease, cancer, strokes, arthritis, and many others. Some people even believe that an ample supply of antioxidants in their diets can delay the aging process!

You might fairly ask where the dreadful free radicals come from, but the truth is that they might not be as terrible as you might think. Free radicals can also assist the body to resist germs, so it is an excess of free radicals that causes health problems, and not a balanced amount.

Don’t Skimp on Fruit and Vegetables

Fortunately antioxidants are available to restore the balance, and virtually mop up any excess of free radicals. It ’s as easy as ABC. Just think of Apples, Berries, and Cabbage, because natural antioxidants are contained within the 5 - 9 fruit and vegetables, that you are continually being advised to include in your diet.

Think in terms of 5 fruits and vegetables being a minimum, because all things being equal, you will get more antioxidant protection against free radicals from 6 - 9 portions than 5! Just as there are fruits and vegetables that are rich in antioxidants, there are other foods that are detrimental.

Can Free Radicals Make You Rusty?

It is astonishing that people should need to be constantly reminded of how to remain healthy. Whereas most people are prepared to do something to protect their cars from oxidation, or rusting, they seem less willing to protect themselves, from oxidation or free radical damage. Just as the car will soon deteriorate if rust is allowed to take hold, so our bodies will become “rusty” if free radicals are not held in check. By all means take care of your car, but make your first priority looking after yourself. A good place to start is with the 5 - 9 fruit and vegetables per day, and the antioxidants they contain.

Why Some Fats Are Worse Than Others

A high fat diet may substantially increase free radical production, and it is generally agreed that saturated fat causes free radical damage. However, the situation is complicated as not all fats are loaded with free radicals. A healthy start would be to try to avoid saturated fats, including animal meat, and fried foods of any description - it’s healthier to grill. There are other fats, such as fish oils, which current research suggests are positively beneficial, but trans fats, widely used in commercial cakes, biscuits etc. are almost being outlawed!

Free Radicals - Environmental Sources

Unfortunately our intake of free radicals is not only from food, but also from environmental sources such as exhaust fumes, tobacco smoke and other pollutants. It is impossible to avoid them all, but as we have already discussed, a good way to protect yourself, is through an applied awareness of antioxidants. There are delicious fruits and vegetables, in abundance, to serve your cause, but you must make sure that you are getting enough by erring towards the higher recommended intake of 9 portions per day.

Which Vitamins Are Antioxidant Rich?

Antioxidant food is essential to your well-being, but if you require additional protection you might consider vitamin supplements. You should get sufficient Vitamin C from your fruit and vegetable intake, but you should try to include Vitamin E as well. Vitamin E is found in peanuts, walnuts, almonds and green leafy vegetables. These essential vitamins are best if they are part of the foods included in your healthy diet. Supplements are available, in various forms, but are best considered under professional guidance.

The French Connection - Or Is It Chinese?

It is worth noting that French people are 2½ times less likely to suffer heart disease than the average American. It may be because the French consume antioxidant, flavonoids rich, red wine with their meals. So a glass or two may be beneficial, but as with most things, excess should be avoided. There seems to be a similar situation in China, where green tea and not red wine is the antioxidant.

You will realize from this brief introduction, that antioxidants will assist you to remain healthy, by neutralizing free radicals. It is only common sense to make sure there are sufficient antioxidants in your diet. If you do not pay proper attention to what you eat you will suffer the consequences. However, you are now aware, that if free radicals are kept under control, you will have done much to eliminate a major source of illness.

7 Ways To Calm In The City

I love the city. The people, the food, the lifestyle. Life can be so good and living in the city makes this possible. Sometimes days are so calm. Well, for those of us living in the city there is a trade off. Noise, traffic, large crowds, rude behavior. But it’s still a great lifestyle in the city. I maintain that it is possible to be calm and live in the city. Calm in the city? You bet. Here are my seven ways to stay calm in the city.

1. Slow down your brain and body rhythms. Psychiatrist Georgi Lozanov suggests the rhythmical and soothing Baroque music from the Classical composers. Vivaldi, Handel, or Bach. He has found heart rate and breathing slow down and an increase in right and left brain hemisphere synchronization. Greater mind and body harmony leads to a calm state of mind.

2. Deep outdoor breathing. Sounds simple yet it is so effective. Did you know that your emotions are linked to your breathing? For example someone agitated or fearful has a particular breathing pattern. Short rapid breaths usually. Fast inhalations and fast exhalations. A calm person breaths differently. Long slow breaths are the norm. Breathing this way automatically creates a sense of calm in a person. If you desire to change your breathing slow it down so you can become more peaceful. There is a lot more to this subject and if you are interested in more information find a good yoga teacher to help you.

3. Go to a gym class, pilates, aerobics, dance, or some kind of group class. Exercise, I like to call it movement, keeps the body strong and healthy. I believe that not using your body creates stress. So we need to have a movement program in place. Not so easy sometimes as many activities are set up so our body does not have to move. “What!” I hear you say. Hey, our ancestors had to go out and hunt for food. This was a workout in itself. If we are really going to enjoy our city lifestyle we need to have our own personal movement program. Look after your body, it will then look after you. In turn with vibrant health you will be more calm as you can handle your daily activities in an energized state of being.

4. Inspiration is a fourth way to calmness. An inspired mind rises to a higher plane of thought. Any positive emotion. Any uplifting emotion lifts you up. This is where calmness can be found. In the realm of positive thought. You won’t find calmness linked to thoughts of worry, fear or not liking yourself.

How to get inspired? Here is a short list. Visit a museum, visit art galleries, a social chat on the telephone, go see a movie, walk along the beach, read a book, plan a holiday, take a new car for a test drive. These are suggestions. Everyone is different and you find out what inspires you. Then put it into action. You’ll find yourself , before you know it, becoming more calm in the process.

5. Do progressive relaxation. Progressive relaxation is where the body is relaxed one muscle at a time until the whole body reaches a deep place of peace. It takes your whole mind and body down to a deeper state of rest and relaxation. Dr Herbert Benson explains how this works in detail in his book ‘The Relaxation Response’. Some physical benefits can include lowered heart rate and increased blood flow.
There exists a definite mind and body connection. The mind and body influence each other. If we are aware of this we can use it consciously to our benefit. A greater mind and body awareness creates more calm in the body in turn this leads to a calm emotional state.

6. Juice your way to calmness. Carrot juice, celery juice, lemon juice, are a healthy way to start your day. There are living nutrients in juices. There is also a strong link between how energized you feel and how calm you are. Once again everyone is different and the more options we have the greater our chance of finding something that works.

7. Make adjustments to your environment. Alter lighting, ventilation, or color schemes. A pleasant and uplifting environment has a positive impact on you. If you’re happy in an environment you’re more likely to experience calm.

These 7 ways to calmness while living in the city is a good start. There’s a whole lot more choices out there for you. Our lifestyle of living in the city can have peace of mind, good health, and calmness. A little bit of planning and some action will create the peace of mind you want. Then you can say to your country and farm loving friends, “Where you live is great, but I just feel so calm living in the city”.

The Benefits of a Home Remedy for Colon Cleansing

Lots of news is available currently about colon cleansing and much of it has the mention of the belief that, huge positive results can be yielded from a home remedy for colon cleansing in dealing with common ailments related to the colon. It is also true that there is skepticism from the people, who believe that the medicines that are obtained over the counter are more beneficial than the home remedy for colon cleansing in the treatment of health problems.

This statement can be true to a certain extent, as there is a lot of ignorance on the realm of home remedies. But, the home remedy also has its benefits. Instead of looking generally, individual basis has to be seen while finding the merits of a home remedy for colon cleansing. But sadly, the generalization is the method that is mostly used as a norm for judging the home remedy for colon cleansing.

A Word about the General Home Remedies:

If an individual has read about the home remedies and the subject of home remedies as a whole, then the confusion about the merits of the subject is bound to appear in the mind of the individual. The various television talk shows that talk about the skepticism involved in using the home remedy are responsible in a way for this confusion. But, some of these talk shows are also based on the merits of the home remedy for colon cleansing.

Actually, the truth lies in the middle of this debate. Some of the home remedies are effective while others are not. The promise of delivery that, the home remedy for colon cleansing states is the basis of its success. A product of home remedy for colon cleansing that promises to cure incurable diseases (such products offering doubtful claims are available in the market) is best avoided.

If the home remedy is falling in the category, that offers a cheap and less abrasive alternative for the chemical products and deals with the common ailments, then the remedy is probably licit. Most of the home remedy for colon cleansing products available in the market is thankfully from such a category.

Trial and Error - Home Remedy:

The bottom line is that, the experiences of the people about the home remedy for colon cleansing is the basis to prove the worthiness of the product. If an individual buys such a home remedy, of more likely, purchases the instructions about the making of a home remedy for colon cleansing and the method works for him, then it becomes difficult to prove the opposite of this.

Hence, the moral of this article is that, the merits of a home remedy for colon cleansing product depends on the method of trial and error.

Omega 3 for Depression - Prevention & Cure - Choosing the Right Omega 3 for Depression

Experiencing frequent mood swings? Feeling tired and sad? Don’t worry help is here. This article is about a miraculous remedy that will not only treat your depression but will also make you healthy. You need omega 3 for depression and other mental disorders.

Depression is a mental ailment and is generally treated by anti-depressants and other medications. These medicines provide only temporary relief and have many side-effects. Many people are now turning towards omega 3 for curing depression and other health problems.

More than 20 million people in the Western countries are suffering from depression and other mental ailments. Many nutritionists have linked this to the low dietary intake of omega 3 fatty acids in these countries.

Omega 3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats comprising of Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). These fats form an integral part of our cell membranes and are essential for our health.

However the essential fatty acids or omega 3 cannot be synthesized by our body which is why we need to solely rely on our diets and omega 3 supplements to get them.

Using Omega 3 for Depression & other mental disorders

Several studies have shown that omega 3 fatty acids can effectively treat depression. Pregnant women who eat little or no fish have three time more chances of going through postpartum depression than those who regularly consume fish oils.

Most of the anti-depressant medicines cure depression by raising the level of a substance called serotonin. Research shows that omega-3 fatty acids also increase the level of serotonin in the body and prevent depression and emotional disorders.

DHA or Docosahexaenoic acid found in fish oils is the main component of brain cells. These are known as the building blocks of our brain and nerve cells. Another essential fatty acid called EPA is responsible for the communication between nerve cells membranes.

Lack of any of these fatty acids can result in a nervous breakdown or mental disorders such as depression, memory loss etc. Fish oils are the richest source of Omega 3 fatty acids as they provide both DHA and EPA to our body.

Now that we have discussed how omega 3 can treat depression and its symptoms, let us help you choose the right omega 3 for depression cure and treatment.

Omega 3 supplements for treating depression need to have high DHA and EPA content. Hoki fish found in the Southern oceans of New Zealand have naturally high levels of DHA. Fish oils extracted from Hoki fish have 40% more DHA content and are especially beneficial for depression patients.

Superior quality fish oils are odorless and tasteless. Make sure the fish oil you select has no additives. The only ingredient that your fish oil should contain is Vitamin E that prevents the oil from going rancid.

Purchase only pharmaceutical brand fish oils that are molecularly distilled. Molecular distillation removes all toxins present in the oil and makes it safe for human consumption. These are most effective & pure omega 3 for depression treatment.
