Yes, Most Daily Horoscopes Are Junk - But Daily Horoscopes Are Not Real Astrology

You may know “astrology” through the pop-culture categories of dime-store booklets or through reading your daily horoscope in the newspaper. These are supposedly the descriptions of who you are and what’s going to happen to you today based on some mysterious elements at work in the sky and little more than the luck of the draw you were handed on the day of the year you were born. Usually the dime-store booklets are simplistic but accurate as far as they go. Daily horoscopes in the newspaper, though, resemble real astrology about as much as Styrofoam resembles real food.

I’m an astrologer. If I do say so myself, I’m a good astrologer … who has for over thirty years studied this intriguing metaphysical subject, and when people say the daily horoscopes in the newspaper are meaningless and silly, I have to agree. But it’s also meaningless, silly, and short-sighted to judge the whole field of astrology itself as worthless based on what even good, competent practitioners of the craft (and there are plenty of us around!) agree are ridiculous distortions. Most daily horoscopes aren’t even an amusing cartoonish representation of what real astrology is all about.

It is possible to write a decent daily horoscope. In fact, I write one that reflects the varying emotional climate as it shifts and realigns itself — changing its focus sometimes several times a day. I publish it on the front page of the Enchanted Spirit website; it’s called “The Lunar Light.” It’s accuracy sometimes astonishes even me, and yes, I consult it myself quite often as I go about my daily routine. But the information there is just that … a point or two of knowledge to have and keep in mind.

I also stay aware of what else is going on in the sky the way I stay aware of the days of the week, the changing seasons, and the daily weather patterns. But, even I don’t run my life “by astrology” in any way I’d call superstitious or grossly inconvenient … and neither should you. I also say it’s just good sense if it’s stormy outside to dress for the occasion. Give yourself some extra time to get where you want to go. Plan for the unexpected. Keep in mind that the roads are slick and you need to drive with caution.

And when Mars is opposing Pluto in the sky … as it is as I write this article, realize it’s likely people are feeling pushed, impatient, hassled, and on edge. Tempers may flare. They may take foolish chances. They won’t react kindly to interference or delays. There’s a lot of resentment and anger floating around just under life’s surface — and it won’t take much to “set it off.” So … maybe a little extra patience can help defuse a problem — or avoid it altogether. Maybe a little extra courtesy can help ease this bump in the road for everyone. Maybe thinking twice before you act — or react — could add extra safety to the daily hustle whose deceptive calm … or already ruffled edges … conceals explosive possibilities.

If you ask me, that attitude that can’t hurt. As an astrologer, I know that any square or opposition between Mars and another planet indicates a time for caution … again, something to keep in mind. Stressed Mars energy (which is what an opposition or a square represents) is explosive, temperamental, and indicative of poor judgment — and there’s often something “spectacular” about what occurs at such times, when things go terribly, terribly wrong.

Mars was opposing Uranus the night The Station Nightclub fire in New Jersey became the 4th deadliest in U.S. history. Mars was opposing Uranus and Neptune when the Waco compound of the Branch Davidians was stormed … with the resulting fire and carnage. Mars was opposing the Moon and moving into an opposition with Jupiter on September 11, 2001 when the World Trade Center in New York City was demolished by terrorists. (Saturn was also opposing Pluto; the Sun was square to both of them; and Venus opposed Uranus. To an astrologer, it was a messy day in the sky as well as a tragic one on the ground. )

Mars was moving out of an opposition with Jupiter and into an opposition with Pluto the night Nichole Brown Simpson was killed by “somebody.” Mars was square to the Moon, Uranus and Jupiter the night Princess Diana was killed. And sure, most people on earth made it through those same nights without being murdered or dying in a car accident. So were there special reasons why those two women were particularly “at risk” at that time. Yes.

The night Nicole Simpson died, Mars — already “in trouble” in the sky was conjunct her Natal Mercury (an indication of possible arguments and decisions made in anger), opposing her Natal Neptune (an indication of self-sabotaging or self-destructive actions), and square to her Natal Uranus (an indication of hasty, ill-considered, impulsive actions.) Are these the best conditions under which to walk out of your house and confront a shadowy figure in your driveway, whether or not you know … or think you know … who it is?

(The best theory I have read about what might have happened that night suggests OJ, angry at his ex-wife’s appearance at their daughter’s recital with another man, MAY have gone to her house, not to kill her, but to slash her tires — expecting that his imminent trip out of town that night would give him an alibi for the incident. That explains the timing of the attack — just prior to the limousine coming to take him to the airport — and the reason why he was at her house with a knife. But Nicole’s mother had forgotten her glasses at a restaurant that evening, and Nicole was watching for Ron Goldman to drop them by her house on his way home from work. Instead, as the theory goes, she saw “somebody” messing with her car, went out to confront whoever it was, and was killed when that “somebody” panicked at being discovered.) This scenario certainly fits what her horoscope describes.

The night Princess Diana died, Mars, again “under pressure” in the sky was square to Natal Mars in her chart (indicating actions “at cross-purposes” with each other). It was conjunct her Natal Neptune (indicating self-sacrificing actions and actions undertaken for emotional rather than logical reasons). It was square her Natal Uranus (again indicating hasty, ill-considered, impulsive actions.) It was square her Natal Jupiter (indicating excessive, “over the top” reactions.) Probably not the best conditions under which to get into a high-speed midnight chase with the paparazzi through the streets of Paris … to say nothing of having a drunk at the wheel.

Might knowing that the energies afoot at the time were “problematic,” and that those energies in comparison to placements in their Natal Charts were especially dicey have offered these women at least a chance to rethink their fatal choices? It’s a question without an answer, of course. And it’s not the kind of information you’ll ever find in a daily horoscope. It is, however, there for anyone to read if they know literally “how to read the signs” … or if they have someone they trust help them decipher the celestial code.

And if knowing these conditions exist and listening to what they mean helps me get myself and my family more safely through the “trouble spots” of life, I’d be an idiot to ignore them. Some people may think that’s the equivalent of clutching a rabbit’s foot and muttering incantations. Maybe they feel the same way about holding a rosary and reciting prayers for protection. But I believe prayers work, that thoughts are things, that extra caution is never misplaced … and that information is power. So I will keep on reading charts … and heeding what they say .. and agreeing with those who say most daily horoscopes, as an example of real astrology, are pretty darn useless.

Mon 10/22/07 Dreamy Day with Unrealistic Expectations

We may be feeling a bit dreamy today under the Pisces Moon, and we may try to catch up on correspondence and conversations. The day will begin with lots of energy, but there may be some self-esteem problems creep up late this afternoon. There is also a tendency to overspend this afternoon, so think before you buy. Our heads may be in the clouds today, and our expectations may be unrealistic, especially this evening. If we can stay grounded today, we may find that we have created tremendous possibilities.

Tue 10/23/07 Deep Conversations and Changes - Ready or Not

Today will be a good day for short trips and conversations. There may be some very deep subjects discussed. Some of us may get our feelings hurt late this afternoon, but by late evening, we will be ready to start again. We may find ourselves going through some changes today, ready or not.

Wed 10/24/07 I Am the Center of the Universe

Many of us may feel like we are the center of the universe today, and we will not be a bit afraid to express it. Self-esteems and energy levels will be high, but that energy may get out of control late this morning bringing a tendency for fights and arguments. By early afternoon we should be feeling bold and impulsive. There is a possibility for unexpected problems with finances or loved ones, but all in all a great day to start anew.

Thu 10/25/07 Impulsive Moody Day with Potential for Great Accomplishments

We will be feeling impulsive again today, and moods could change quickly. We will need to pay attention to the argumentative and feisty behavior within ourselves, or we may end up “inserting foot in mouth.” There is a strong potential to get much accomplished this afternoon, if we can stay focused. By early evening we will be ready to wind down, and tonight we may want to sit at home and just gaze at the Full Moon.

Fri 10/26/07 Exciting Morning and Creative Evening with a Slow Serious Pace

Those of us up early may begin our day on a very serious and optimistic note. We will not be in any big hurry today, but things may become a bit exciting this morning. Conversations could be very powerful. It would be a great morning to make that big sales pitch, or ask the boss for some changes. Today will be an excellent day to review the bills and the bank account. Our moods could become very inventive this evening, and our eyes will turn to beauty. We may want to do some redecorating, or some kind of creative project.

Sat 10/27/07 Slow and Steady Day Turning to a Busy Night

This would be an excellent Saturday morning to just putter around the house and enjoy time with loved ones. Or, we may want to get out early and check out the flea markets and garage sales. People will move at a slow and steady pace today, and we may want to take a little extra time to appreciate the beauty in our world. Some of us may feel the pull of our addictions this afternoon, so we will want to make an extra effort to exercise moderation. Our moods will change tonight and we will be ready to get up and do something. It will be a great evening for short trips or catching up on conversations and correspondence.

Sun 10/28/07 Great Day for Travel and Talk

Those of us up very early this morning may have some very serious ideas, or we may be criticizing everyone and everything in front of us. It is going to be a restless day under the Gemini Moon, and we may be ready to talk or compete. It will be a great day to attend a sports event, or just call up friends. Some of us may find ourselves dealing with a personal upset or some financial restrictions all day, and there is also a tendency for some hysterical outbursts this evening. For the most part, it will be a great day for travel and talk.

The Nakshatras - The 27 Lunar Mansions of Vedic Astrology

The Nakshatras are 27 constellations in the sky measuring 13 degrees 20 minutes each. This is the most ancient of zodiacs, mentioned in texts long before mention of Rasis.

Basis Above and Basis Below:
The basis above is what is in the mind of the deity of the Nakshatra when thinking about life upon earth. The basis below is the natural consequence, or how that mindset manifests when living upon earth. It is not what is consciously in the mind of a person, it is the natural predisposition and what grows from this natural predisposition.

Shakti:
Shakti is the power inherent in the Nakshatra and the power in the mind of the individual. This power is innate and does not need conscious interference or will power. It is as innate as the color of one’s eyes even if the native is not aware of it.

The Nakshatras

Ashwini
“Owning horses”
0 - 13°20 Aries
Deities: Ashwini Kumaras
Symbol: the horse’s head
Shakti: power to reach things quickly
Basis Above: creatures to be healed
Basis Below: healing therapies
Result: freedom from disease

Ashwini natives are swift and are able to travel at high speeds. They are natural healers and being in their presence in soothing. They are good listeners and will make excellent therapists and psychologists. This is an animal Nakshatra so there is an affinity for animals, especially horses. They also have an affinity for vehicles. Ashwini people usually reach lofty heights in their chosen profession but not though ambition. Roy Rogers, the cowboy actor, has his natal Moon here and he was featured in over one hundred movies with his Palamino and German Shepherd. Peter Fonda, the lead in “Easy Rider”, also is an Ashwini native. The chopper was his metal stallion carrying him swiftly across the United States.

Bharani
“To bear”
13°20 - 26°40 Aries
Deity: Yama, the god of death
Symbol: vagina
Shakti: power to take things away
Basis Above: removal of life from the body
Basis Below: carry the soul to the realm of the ancestors
Result: Moving on to the next world

Bharani people are obsessed with death and/or transformation. Their power lies in taking things away. As long as the things taken away are negative or counterproductive, then the Bharani person works in line with the universe. For example, if one has a brain tumor, a Bharani surgeon will effectively be able to take it away. Garbage needs to be taken away. Psychologically, negative attitudes and self-defeating habits need to be taken away so that the person can better themselves. The vagina, as the symbol of Bharani, takes away the semen to produce another life, it takes away the vital essence of one being to create another. As a side note, Jim Morrison had his Moon in Bharani. Did you see the movie, “The Doors”? Throughout the entire movie, he spoke about and was obsessed with the subject of death. Many of his songs were about death.

Krittika
“Razor/cutter”
26°40 Aries - 10°00 Taurus
Deity: Agni, the god of fire
Symbol: A razor or sharp blade
Shakti: To burn
Basis Above: Heat
Basis Below: Light
Result: Burning and purification

Krittika is also a transformative Nakshatra. Fire is the most purifying substance known. Krittika people are fiery, courageous and able to cut away the unnecessary to achieve their goals. Frida Kahlo had her Moon in Krittika and her art is filled with images of cut flesh and even a self-portrait of cutting her own hair. There are myths associated with Agni, the god of fire that tell of high sexual passion and illicit affairs with other married individuals, note that Katherine Hepburn’s Moon is also under the sway of Krittika and her 25 year affair with the married Spencer Tracy was hardly a secret.

Rohini
“The growing” or “the red”
10°00 - 23°20 Taurus
Deity: Prajapati, lord of creation
Symbol: an ox cart
Shakti: growth
Basis Above: plants
Basis Below: waters
Result: creation

Rohini is a soft, tender nakshatra. This was the favorite wife of the Moon. The deity, Prajapati is a creative deity, presiding over theatrical art, dancing and music and all growth. Rohini, as the favorite wife of the Moon, was highly talented in these arts as well as highly skilled in making love. In Vedic myth, the Moon stayed with Rohini to the detriment of his other wives because of her beauty grace and charm. The father of the brides, Daksha, cursed the Moon, so now he waxes and wanes as he visits all of his wives. Rohini people make wonderful dancers, Fred Astaire has his natal Moon here. Rohini people are concerned with growth, note that Sigmund Freud, doing research into the growing mind of the individual from babyhood, through toddler years, revolved an entire thesis around how the perceptual mind grows in psychology.

Mrigashira
“the deer’s head” “hunting”
23°20 Taurus - 6°40 Gemini
Deity: Soma, god of immortality
Symbol: deer’s head
Shakti: the power to give fulfillment
Basis Above: to extend
Basis Below: weaving
Result: Making the world enjoyable

Mrigashira individuals search within the creation for satiation and usually find it. They extend themselves into creation, weaving a pattern of karmas, but these desires to be fulfilled are benign and the motivation behind them is to enjoy the creation. Mrigashira individuals are charming, changeable, timid, and impulsive. They like to hunt for the objects of their desires. The house placement of the Moon as well as any planets conjunct the Moon in Mrigashira will give clues as to what the native is hunting. Mrigashira is an animal Nakshatra, so there is a natural love of animals and nature unless planets are severely afflicted here. Also, as a side note, Mrigashira people often have big, beautiful, doe-like eyes. An example is Brooke Shields and Goldie Hawn who both have their Moons in this asterism.

Ardra
“the moist one”
6°40 - 20°00 Gemini
Deity: Rudra, the storm-god
Symbol: a teardrop
Shakti: the power of effort
Basis Above: to hunt or search
Basis Below: reach the goal
Result: achievement

Rudra, the god of Ardra, is a form of Shiva. Shiva is very unconventional and heretical in his actions and views, so Ardra people are inclined to be the same way. The symbol is a teardrop, so high emotion is associated with this asterism. Often Ardra individuals will be moved to tears, and since Shiva is the god of destruction and suffering, often Ardra people will suffer for what they want and to achieve their goals. In order to reach the goal, there is suffering and destruction of some sort along the way. Ardra’s planetary ruler is Rahu, showing an obsessive, strong desire nature. Ardra natives can make their goals their obsessions, giving a powerful impetus for success, however if they do not have a beneficial and healthy goal, they can fall into addictions. Janis Joplin and Farrah Fawcett have their natal Moons placed here. The sad story of Janis Joplin’s addictions ruining her after she achieved great success is well known.

Punarvasu
“return to goodness and light”
20°00 Gemini - 3°20 Cancer
Deity: Aditi, mother of the gods
Symbol: a quiver of arrows
Shakti: the power of wealth or substance
Basis Above: wind, air
Basis Below: wetness, rain
Result: producing herbs and trees

Aditi, the mother goddess, is beyond form and boundless. She is goddess of space and also of the earth. Like the goddess, Punarvasu people love freedom and expansion. The have the natural ability to create wealth and prosperity. They have many resources from which to draw upon, represented by the quiver of arrows. They like to store and retain their creations and energy instead of spending it. They have a strong sense of virtue and of right and wrong. The ability to resurrect a failing marriage or career, or regain self-respect, prosperity or income is a natural talent among these natives. The person may become overly enamored of material well being and use it for selfish reasons, but will always return to the balanced, correct path. David Hasselhoff has his Moon here and has been through many rehabilitations for alcohol related problems and he also knows that his actions are self-defeating and seeks out help to renew himself.

Pushya
“nourishing” “the flower”
3°20 - 16°40 Cancer
Deity: Brihaspati, teacher of the devas (divine beings, gods)
Symbol: udder of a cow
Shakti: the power to create spiritual energy
Basis Above: sacrificial worship
Basis Below: the worshipper
Result: possessing spiritual knowledge and energy

Brihaspati as the lord of Pushya rules knowledge and Pushya natives tend to be professionals in their field and quite knowledgeable. They will nourish anything they come into contact with and make it grow and thrive. As a result, this Nakshatra has the reputation of being the most auspicious Nakshatra. Luck naturally comes the way of the Pushya person. Prosperity and wealth are also attributes that seem to bless the life of the native of Pushya. Learning and mental energy are favored by this Nakshatra. Clint Eastwood, Joe Montana and Gloria Steinem all have their natal Moons in Pushya. All three of these individuals are extremely learned and fortunate in their respective fields.

Ashlesha
“entwiner” “embracer”
16°40 - 30°00 Cancer
Deity: Sarpas, the deified serpents
Symbol: a coiled serpent
Shakti: the power to inflict with poison
Basis Above: the approach of the serpent
Basis Below: agitation or trembling
Result: destruction of the victim

Ashlesha natives entwine or embrace that which they desire. They have a hypnotic, sensual, undulating quality which can metaphorically paralyze the object of their gaze. The poison they inflict can be to destroy or an ambrosial nectar that will bring about illusions within the recipient. They do not have the magnetic, charismatic qualities to sway the masses, usually their hypnotic powers work best on a one to one basis. Snakes are representative of the kundalini energy so this asterism has intense mystical power. The sarpas inhabit the underworld, so the Ashlesha native will be fascinated by the hidden, occult, deeply psychological areas of life. They are also akin to snakes as they periodically shed their skin and go through many transformations in life. Examples of Ashlesha natives are Marilyn Manson where the fascination with the dark side of life is quite apparent. Barbara Streisand is also a native with an Ashlesha moon. As a worthy note, Ashlesha rules fingernails; she possesses these in abundance and they are world famous.

Magha
“the great one”
0 - 13°20 Leo
Deity: The Pitris, the deified ancestors
Symbol: throne room, royal court
Shakti: the power to leave the body
Basis Above: mourning
Basis Below: leaving the body
Result: death

This Nakshatra is a very fated Nakshatra. These natives are highly relegated by what their ancestors have done and the desires of their ancestors. This Nakshatra has as its basis above, mourning, which above all is an awareness in the consciousness that things must be let go of and moved past. There are several phases in life that the person will move through and many people and situations they will be obliged to let go of. In the mythology of this Nakshatra, the Pitris live on the Moon, which represents that the ancestors are connected to our genetic make-up and guiding the destiny because of the link with consciousness. Because of the connection to the “throne room” and royal court, Magha natives often obtain a high level of success and fame in life. Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin have their natal Moon in this asterism.

Purva Phalguni
“the former red one”
13°20 - 26°40 Leo
Deity: Bhaga, the god of wealth, especially inherited wealth
Symbol: legs of a cot
Shakti: the power to procreate
Basis Above: the wife, female partner
Basis Below: the husband, male partner
Result: the creation of a living being

All Purva Nakshatras deal with tremendous creative and conceptual powers. The Uttara Nakshatras are the natural follow up as they make the ideas and concepts into tangible results. Purva Phalguni is a highly creative Nakshatra with many artists and musicians as its natives. There is a predisposition to being overly sensual and fascinated by sexuality. These natives seem to create something of value while in partnership, not necessarily romantic partnership. When they create alone, it is most often unbalanced. There is a strong thirst for direct experience and a need to have concepts recognized. At one time the most famous woman in the world, Madonna, has her natal Moon here. Madonna’s fascination with sexuality and artistic talents are well known. Most of her documented life she has been one half of a partnership.

Uttara Phalguni
“the latter red one”
26°40 Leo - 10°00 Virgo
Deity: Aryaman, god of chivalry and contracts
Symbol: a bed or a cot
Shakti: the power of wealth and accumulation through partnership
Basis Above: wealth obtained through one’s family
Basis Below: wealth obtained through the partner or partner’s family
Result: accumulation of wealth

Uttara Phalguni is an asterism that will take the concepts and ideas of the previous Nakshatra and turn them into tangible results. This is a wealth Nakshatra and the native is able to benefit greatly from the wealth of his family and the wealth of the partner if the Moon is unafflicted here. It does not necessarily mean that the native’s family is wealthy or that the partner is wealthy, but that the native benefits from these avenues of wealth. This is also a Nakshatra where partnerships are favored and anything created in a partnership will thrive and bring wealth. Examples of this wealth through partnership can be seen through the natives of Barbara Bach, the wife of Ringo Starr and Eva Braun, the chere amie of Hitler.

Hasta
“the hand”
10°00 - 23°20 Virgo
Deity: Savitar the Sun, giver of life
Symbol: a hand or fist
Shakti: the power to gain our desire and place it in our hand
Basis Above: seeking gain
Basis Below: obtaining the desire
Result: obtainment of wish and put in one’s hand

Hasta natives can acquire the objects of the desires in their consciousness. If their Moon is afflicted, they will be confused about what they want. The symbol is the hand, so these natives are naturally dexterous and highly skilled. The deity, Savitar, rules over the control of the mind that gives higher awareness and the necessary focus to obtain what we want. Out of divine inspiration, these natives will usually unselfishly create with their hands. Orville Wright has his natal Moon here. Savitar also rules mantras and divine words, so the Hasta native will have a good capacity for writing and speaking. Sylvia Plath, the tragic but incredibly talented poet, had her natal Moon here as well. Her Moon however, was very dim and in the 8th house, hence her poems were about death and transformation of the psyche.

Chitra
“the bright” “the distinguished”
23°20 Virgo - 6°40 Libra
Deity: Tvashtar or Vishvakarma, the celestial architect
Symbol: a shining jewel
Shakti: the power to accumulate merit
Basis Above: law
Basis Below: truth
Result: gain of honor in one’s work

Chitra natives have the brightest star on the ecliptic, Spica, illuminating their constellation, hence their name, “the Bright”. They like to shine in what they do and do it with a certain flair and magnetism. They also like to be completely responsible for their creations as the deity, Vishvakarma is the divine architect. Chitra natives try to do their best in everything they do and they are extremely motivated to follow their own Truth. They are bright, charismatic and usually powerful. If the Moon is severely afflicted, what they believe to be the Truth may be highly twisted, but they will still be motivated to follow their own personal path. These natives will have flashes of inspiration and will want to become self-realized. Righteous activity will result in accumulation of merit, the shakti of Chitra. Sylvester Stallone, Ted Turner and both George Bushes have their Moons in Chitra.

Swati
“the independent one”
6°40 - 20°00 Libra
Deity: Vayu, deified wind
Symbol: a young sprout swaying in the wind
Shakti: the power to scatter like the wind
Basis Above: movement in different directions
Basis Below: changing form
Result: transformation

Wind means change. Reflect upon the saying, “Winds of Change”. Swati natives take something and transform it. Their lives are characterized by much movement and change. They thrive upon this and get bored when things are stagnant. These natives have a pioneering spirit and are very independent. Because their shakti is to scatter like the wind, they will be adventurous and restless and love to travel. Wind governs speech and the communicative faculty, the vocal chords, so these native will have natural talents in speaking and singing. Vayu, the deity of this Nakshatra, is also lord of the celestial musicians, so these natives often love music or have talent in this area. Charles Chaplin, Miles Davis, a trumpet player of which blowing air is paramount, and Johnny Cash all have their Moons in this asterism.

Vishakha
“the forked one”
20°00 Libra - 3°20 Scorpio
Deities: Indra, two gods of lightning and fire
Symbol: leaf encrusted triumphal gateway
Shakti: the power to achieve many and various goals
Basis Above: to cultivate
Basis Below: the harvest
Result: fruits of the harvest

Vishakha, as a Jupiter ruled Nakshatra, is connected to divine spirit. These natives need to define spirituality for themselves or some kind of dharmic (purposeful) path must be put into place to guide their lives. These natives are also planners, they do not act impulsively. The inherent nature of cultivation and then reaping the harvest takes time, so these natives are very patient and persistent. They are multi-faceted and have many talents. They often will make good farmers and gardeners. Vishakha natives will cultivate their ideas and creations until they have reached perfection. The deities are ones of lightning and fire, so therefore are extremely intense and often will disregard others in their pursuit of their desire. Jimmy Carter, who was once a farmer and Jules Verne, who was both a writer of science fiction and a politician, both have their native Moons here.

Anuradha
“additional Radha”
3°20 - 16°40 Scorpio
Deity: Mitra, god of friendship, lord of compassion
Symbol: a lotus, archway
Shakti: the power of worship
Basis Above: to ascend
Basis Below: to descend
Result: Honor and abundance

Natives with Anuradha as their Nakshatra have a very fated path with regard to friends. Really good friends are naturally fated because they usually give us help when needed and boosts in career, finance, etc. Anuradha is also ruled by Saturn, the planet of fate. These natives usually take longer than usual to reach their goals and must go through many adversities in early life before they are able to come into their own as represented by the lotus. Honor and loyalty play a major role in their life as well. They are often very devoted to something, hence their shakti as power of worship. The worship does not have to be something spiritual, it can be a concept, a career, a person. The god Mitra, abhors violence and disputes, so these natives usually do not like passionate confrontations. This is a goal oriented Nakshatra and these natives reach their goals through the alliances they maintain with others. Bob Geldof, the instigator of the LiveAid concerts and Francis Ford Coppola have Anuradha as their Moons’ Nakshatra.

Jyeshtha
“the eldest”
16°40 - 30°00 Scorpio
Deity: Indra, king of gods, lord of storms
Symbol: earring, talisman
Shakti: the power to rise and conquer
Basis Above: to attack
Basis Below: to defend
Result: To gain supremacy among the gods

Jyeshtha, as all Nakshatras ruled by Mercury, is concerned with tangible results. As the eldest, and Indra as the deity, these people are fierce fighters and love a challenge. They are very powerful people and have the ability to rise above circumstances and become a hero. They tend to see life as a battle. Because Jyeshtha means the eldest, these people often hold positions of seniority and authority. There is very powerful sexual potency in this Nakshatra and these natives have a forceful impact on people and may be prone to adultery and illicit sexual encounters. Their sexual desire may cause them to seek fulfillment outside of their primary relationships. The Jyeshtha person can never be held down. Tiger Woods, Oprah Winfrey and Alexander the Great are some examples of Jyeshtha natives

Mula
“the root”
0 - 13°20 Sagittarius
Deity: Nirriti, goddess of misery
Symbol: tied up bunch of roots, lion’s tail
Shakti: the power to destroy or damage
Basis Above: to break
Basis Below: to crush
Result: destruction

Mula people like to take things apart, literally destroy them, before they create anything. Mula natives are focused on getting to the root of a concept, situation or thing so they inevitably must destroy most of the thing to get at its essence. Mula is a constellation at the middle of the Milky Way, so these natives become intensely interested in their object of study and penetrate the core of whatever it is that they are focused upon. They like to uncover secret knowledge. Because of the naturally difficult aspects of this Nakshatra, Mula natives are prone to experience utter loss and disappointment at some time in their lives. As this is happening, Nirriti will give a healing salve to those in distress. She is also protector of those people who are mentally and physically disabled The Mula person will confront fear and it will flee. A Mula person has an inner warrior that can confront anything. Prominent Mula people are Henri Matisse and Krishnamurti.

Purva Ashadha
“the former undefeated”
13°20 - 26°40 Sagittarius
Deity: Apas, goddess of waters
Symbol: a basket used for separating grain from the husk
Shakti: the power to invigorate or energize
Basis Above: strength
Basis Below: connection
Result: to gain the sea upon wishing for it

Purva Nakshatras, as mentioned before, are concerned with concepts and ideas. Purva Ashadha’s deity, Apas, is the goddess of waters. In this context it means water as flowing. Purva Ashadha people are invigorating and inspiring. They like to feel connected. Water is what invigorates us in the body. When we are dehydrated we feel de-energized and uninvigorated; flowing water remedies this. These people have great luster and charisma. They use their natural strength to bring people together for a cause. Because it is “the former undefeated”, these people tend to succeed quickly and success and victory. This is also a highly creative Nakshatra with a lot of sexual potency, so they tend to attract romantic partners and friends that help them win their goals. Other prominent people with this Nakshatra are Johnny Depp, Ernest Hemingway and Cher.

Uttara Ashadha
“the latter undefeated”
26°40 Sagittarius - 10°00 Capricorn
Deity: The Ten Vishvadevas, universal gods
Symbol: an elephant’s tusk
Shakti: the power to grant an unchallengeable victory
Basis Above: strength to win
Basis Below: the goal that one can win
Result: becomes the victor that can never lose

Uttara Ashadha also denotes victory. However, since this is “the latter undefeated”, these people tend to succeed later and have more patience and perseverance. Since it is Uttara, it is more concerned with tangible results than ideas and concepts. Many of these people take on incredible odds but are able to succeed anyway. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln have their Moons here. Uttara Ashadha people have an intense desire behind which they throw their strong will to achieve a victory that endures. They have leadership qualities and a natural diplomacy.

Shravana
“the ear”
10°00 - 23°20 Capricorn
Deity: Vishnu, the Pervader
Symbol: three footprints
Shakti: the power to connect
Basis Above: seeking
Basis Below: paths
Result: connection of all things

As “the ear” is representative of Shravana, hearing becomes very important for this Nakshatra. Hearing becomes what we think. These natives want to connect things and people, so what they hear becomes a means for connection. What they hear decides their path. You know the saying, “That sounds good”. This determines our decision when something sounds better than something else. This is also the Nakshatra of listening, so these natives make great listeners and develop a profound wisdom. Three footprints symbolize walking and traveling, so the Shravana person will like to walk, run and/or travel. Charles Manson has his Moon in this Nakshatra. He killed because he heard the White Album of the Beatles and believed it was heralding a race war. Henry Ford also has this asterism and what better way to connect people than to provide automobiles which made travel much faster and efficient.

Dhanishtha
“the wealthiest”
23°20 Capricorn - 6°40 Aquarius
Dieties: the eight Vasus, gods of light and abundance
Symbol: a musical drum
Shakti: the power to give abundance and fame
Basis Above: birth
Basis Below: prosperity
Result: To revolve around the summit of the gods

Dhanishtha is a wealth Nakshatra. Its natives have the power to acquire immense wealth, whatever that may be. It is usually wealth of the financial kind, but it can also be measured in fame as well. Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana, arguably the most famous women to have ever lived, have their Moons here. This is also a Nakshatra of Nature. The natives enjoy spending time in the woods away from the hustle and bustle of crowded cities. Many of these natives are born into wealth and then acquire even more as life progresses or they are born famous or within a famous family. They have a knack for acquiring fame and fortune if they are not born into it. Often these natives give birth to something original as that is there basis above. Fidel Castro gave birth to Communism in Cuba. He is considered an extremely successful leader amongst his own people. A musical drum as the symbol often make these natives musicians or gives a good rhythm as in dancing.

Shatabisha
“possessing or requiring one hundred physicians or medicines”
6°40 - 20°00 Aquarius
Deity: Varuna, god of rain and water
Symbol: an empty circle
Shakti: the power of healing
Basis Above: all-pervasiveness
Basis Below: support for everything
Result: Firmness in understanding

Varuna, the deity, is “the coverer” or “the binder”, thus these natives have a hidden, secret side that they hide from the world. Varuna rules the invisible so these natives are very unpredictable. Before Varuna was associated with water, he was the god of the “all-encompassing sky” and he was the support for creation. He actually created the Nakshatras, thus these natives seem to be all knowing and know things without any methodical practice. They can assimilate diverse information and unite it into an all-encompassing theory. Since Varuna created the Nakshatras, these natives exist to heal the creation. Each individual jiva needs to be healed, that is the purpose of creation, to heal, so that enlightenment can be reached. The all pervading aspect of Shatabisha shows up in the horoscope of J. Edgar Hoover, the former head of the FBI.

Purva Bhadrapada
“earlier auspicious one”
20°00 Aquarius - 3°20 Pisces
Deity: Aja Ekapada, the one-footed goat
Symbol: double faced man, a sword, two front legs of a funeral bed
Shakti: the power of spiritual fire which is elevating
Basis Above: that which is good for people
Basis Below: that which is good for the gods
Result: to gain support for the entire world through spiritual knowledge

Purva Bhadrapada natives are inspired by what is good for all people. They are motivated by supporting the world through knowledge and do not have a need to be recognized for what they do. This is a devotional, worship centered Nakshatra. When they become interested in something, they will revere it. Worship is really attention. That which our attention focuses upon the most consistently and methodically is that which we worship. Hugh Hefner has his natal Moon here and through his worship of the female form, was able to create a publishing empire. Martin Luther King also has his Moon here and was able to create and promote concepts and ideas of fairness and equality.

Uttara Bhadrapada
“later auspicious one”
3°20 - 16°40 Pisces
Deity: Ahir Budhya, serpent of the deep
Symbol: two joined men, the back end of a funeral bed
Shakti: the power to bring rain
Basis Above: the raining of clouds
Basis Below: the growth of plants
Result: Nourishment and balance between earth and sky

Uttara Bhadrapada natives want to bring nourishment. The world is not stable because there is hunger and need. These natives want to bring stability by fulfilling needs. They want to bring about peace and balance. Uttara Bhadrapada’s skakti is to bring the rain. Rain represents a quelling of a thirsty earth, but also the condensation of ideas and inspiration into tangible form that can do some good in a practical way. Bill Gates is an Uttara Bhadrapada native. He answered a need for the sharing of information and heightened communication and fulfilled that need with a concrete product. Now anyone almost anywhere in the world can find information about any subject or find what they want through a computer.

Revati
“wealthy”
16°40 - 30°00 Pisces
Deity: Pushan, Sun as Nourisher and finder of lost things and animals
Symbol: a drum, fish
Shakti: the power of nourishment
Basis Above: cows
Basis Below: calves
Result: Nourishment of entire world

Revati natives will go out of their way to care for someone. They instinctively know what is needed on an immediate physical or psychological level and as a result are usually wonderful people to have as friends. Revati natives also love traveling and usually had great good luck while on travels. The symbol of a drum gives them good dancing and musical ability. They also love animals. If planets are severely afflicted here, there may come harm from animals. Angelina Jolie has her natal Moon here. She has been deeply moved by the hunger and poverty she has seen in third world countries and has now dedicated her life to helping those in need. She has adopted impoverished children and given them a life they would never have dreamed of. She is also constantly globe trotting to fulfill her new humanitarian obligations.

Mercury Retrograde, October 12th -November 1st, 2007

We find our Planet of Communication, Thinking and Movement reversing from 09 Degrees Scorpio until it goes Direct again upon November 1st, 6:58pm EST at 23 Degrees Libra. The direction of the collective’s mentalities are now asked to seek positive, diplomatic, clear and resourceful expressions til October 23rd. At this time Mercury will reenter Libra’s energy until the 1st, where we are asked to seek persuasive, precise and polished responses.

The Collective is wise to avoid gravitating to ruthless, skeptical, or highly prejudiced reactions up until the 23rd. Once back into Libra, we are also well-advised to steer clear of becoming easily distracted, shallow or unbalanced. As with all Mercury retrograde periods, it is the time spend in reflection of these ideals that will bring the benefits of the Universe’s offer to each of us to make the most of these next 3 weeks.

Where does this current Mercury Retrograde Period affect you directly? Your astrological birth chart will point to the Houses that Scorpio and Libra affect you personally. On an individual level, this is the area that time is best spent in those Laws of Mercury RE’s, of which the uncanny mysteries of Lexigrams show us right within the very words:

MERCURY RETROGRADE

DAY TO DAY, GREET YOUR URGE TODAY:

GO TO A MERCY TO CURE A GREEDY EGO
GO GREET A MORE MATURE AREA
GO TO A REMOTE AREA TO MEET A GREAT REMEDY
GO TO A GOD- ADORE YOU!

Remember Stars, as with any Mercury Retrograde period, it is the approach of our Reactions to the natural changes, mishaps, mix-ups and re-doings that this passage brings that allows us to make the very best of it. If we expect change, it is all the easier to deal with calmly and realize attachment over this time only brings us frustration. Let us all embrace the next 3 weeks with the energy of Refreshing in mind, as well as adhere to those Mercury Retrograde do’s and don’ts for all of our successful outcomes.

DON’T:
*Sign important documents, legal agreements, etc.
*Initiate something new you wish to have the long-term successful outcomes with.
*If something must be set in forward motion over this period, be in the know there will be a restructuring of it further down the road.

DO:
*Expect breakdowns and Rescheduling with travel arrangements as mechanical problems can surface.

*Review and Renew things already under way.
*When Mercury is direct, go ahead with the launching of new projects.

Make you make the very best of this time for your continued evolution!

A Foundation For Astrology

Astrology studies the celestial bodies affects on humanity. In particular human fate, destiny, and personality were described by the celestial influences of the stars and planets. The roots of Astrology can be traced back to the first or second century BC. Many ancient cultures such as the Egyptians, Babylonians, and Chinese practiced forms of Astrology. Although, the methods of Astrological forecast differed slightly from culture to culture there still remained many fundamental similarities between them.

For example Chinese Astrology which evolved convergent to western Astrology had some major differences. The most fundamental difference being the use of the moons 28 day cycle through the heavens as opposed to the Suns* 365 day cycle around the earth(*Note: The Sun does not revolve around the earth but during this period it was the popular belief). The earliest Chinese zodiac divided the lunar cycles into 4 groups each corresponding to a different season and 7 sub groups corresponding to specific lunar mansions in the season. The seasons were given animal based names for example: Spring=The Green Dragon of spring, summer=The Red Bird of Summer, fall=The White Tiger of autumn, and winter=The Black Tortoise of Winter.

Even though the use of the moon in Chinese Astrology opposed the use of the suns movement through the celestial bodies in the Babylonian and Egyptian disciplines some similarities still existed. These similarities included the use of elemental attributes assigned to the planets. For example Saturn= Earth, Mars=Fire, Mercury=Water, Venus=Metal, and Jupiter=Wood. In addition to this similarity the Chinese zodiac also has 12 signs like its western counterpart.

The western use of the sun as the foci for Astrological studies stemmed from the pre heliocentric model of the universe. In particular Egyptians may have contributed greatly to the earth centered model of the solar system. They believed a giant dung beetle pushed the sun through the sky like a giant piece of dung. This earth centered model of our solar system coincidentally seemed to arise around 1.5 BC right around the time the Egyptian and Babylonian studies of celestial objects began.

As you may suspect there are different schools of thought on Astrology. These include Moon signs, Sun Signs, and animal signs. The popular horoscope used in your local newspaper for example is probably based on your sun sign. In contrast the Indian Vedic school of thought would be more concerned with your moon sign. While the Chinese system uses animal signs in their zodiac and is based on the twelve year Jovan cycle. Some even speculate that there may be correlation between Astrological studies and the Tarot deck.

In conclusion, Astrology has substantial scientific, historical, societal, and spiritual foundations. However you look at it the influences of the planets and constellations on our lives is evident in our every day lives. From the ebbing and rising of the oceans’ tides alone it should be apparent that the immense power of the moon has profound affects on our planet. In addition based on this it would stand to reason that as humans composed mostly of water the celestial bodies (ie the Moon) do have a profound impact on our moods, personality traits, and interactions with others. Wouldn’t it?

Those Feisty Mars/Uranus Aspects - It Gets Mellower At Midlife

Blending keywords for Mars and for Uranus, we come up with evocative combinations that give a sense of the aspects’ range of possibilities: Visionary pioneer; inventive adventurer; rash innovator; Daring eccentric; brilliant leader; unconventional competitor; Bold outlaw; angry iconoclast; explosive athlete; Exciting challenger; brainy warrior; and aggressive nonconformist.

As you can see, these are not likely to be everyday people, but extraordinary, and are bound to be noticed, whether for their deeds or misdeeds. Many Uranians carry a sort of electric charge that makes them high-strung and excitable, and the Mars variety of Uranian can have an excess of physical and sexual tension that begs to be channeled into constructive outlets. When the tension has no outlet or when hide-bound Mars–Uranus individuals encounter resistance to their drives or desires, they may express anger explosively. Whether they’re prone to do so verbally or physically depends on the total astrological picture: Mars in an air sign, for instance, is more inclined to verbal outbursts of a caustic nature, while Mars in a fire sign might need a more physical or sexual outlet.

For Uranian types like bikers, outlaws, or radicals, the “enemy” is often seen as the authorities or society as a whole. Mars adds a distinct flavor of feistiness, or even downright combativeness. The reckless provocateurs among them can challenge authority or the norm aggressively. There’s much in today’s world that needs challenging, and yet their way of going about it often raises hackles, for they can be provocative and arrogant, trying to bring about change through conquest rather than accord.

The Loooooong Conjunction of 2003: Parents, grandparents, and educators will be wondering about the children born under the Mars-Uranus conjunction in Pisces during 2003. It was within an 8° orb from mid-June to mid October—an unusually long time—because of the retrograde and direct motions of both planets. (The prior conjunctions in Pisces in 1922, 1924, and 1926 lasted no more than two weeks each.) Those who came on board from August through October, 2003, also have Jupiter in early Virgo, opposing—and inflating—this combination. A final indication of how remarkable this celestial event must be is that Mars was closer to the earth at that time than it had been in thousands of years.

According to long-range census statistics from the National Center for Health Statistics, the birth rate consistently forms a large spike from May to October each year, so there were a vast number of babies born with this aspect. A rough estimate would be that 1.5 million children were born in the U.S. alone with this combination. Imagine the kindergarten classrooms of 2008, crammed full of Mars–Uranus baby bikers bouncing off the walls. We haven’t seen hyperactive yet! Elementary school staff may want to begin rethinking their career path—or investing in shin guards. I can’t help but believe, given the ways our world is unfolding at this time, that there’s a good reason for this unusually lengthy conjunction falling at the yearly peak of the births and that our world is going to need these feisty warriors when they come of age. Those with Mars–Uranus conjunctions seem to have an urgent need to exercise their inalienable right to be who they are, with more of a chip on the shoulder about it than those with the square.

Midlife—Turning the Tide with Mars and Uranus

As with other outer planet aspects to Mars, the midlife cycle can be a window for people with Mars-Uranus aspects to bottom out on any ways the combination is being used destructively and to change to more constructive uses. That would be during the intervals when transiting Uranus is in the sign opposite its natal position. Many celebrities of the subgeneration with the 1960s conjunction of Pluto and Uranus in Virgo have used the midlife aspects of transiting Uranus’s opposition to natal Uranus positively, with great accomplishments. Both Johnny Depp and Robert Downey, Jr. have Mars conjunct Uranus and Pluto, and both went through extremely self-destructive phases, yet both seemed to come into their own a midlife.

I’ve often observed that at midlife, strongly Uranian people who have been using that planet’s energies self-destructively seem to bottom out on the destructive patterns and find more constructive ways to use their Uranian abilities and desires. Sometimes it takes a meltdown of the type Downey lived out, but many others reach an accord with Uranus’ demands through reflection and conscious choice. A very fine astrologer, Doris Hebel was one of the first to lecture about the midlife cycle, and what she said about the Uranus-Uranus opposition captured it all: “It’s like a wave that has gone as far out from shore as it can, and now it has to turn back.”

Since Mars is the planet most physically related to maleness, it’s intriguing to consider whether the Uranus opposition at midlife is at all related to the idea of a male menopause with a reduction in male hormones. For many years, medical experts (mostly male) rejected the idea, although wives—and ex-wives—insisted that their husbands went through it in their 40s, citing the prevalence of sports car purchases, affairs, and new trophy wives as evidence. Lately, it seems the experts are more receptive to the idea and they’ve begun to investigate it.
The changes men go through at midlife are unsettling, but they do settle down eventually. For Mars-Uranus types, if there is in fact a shift in male hormones, perhaps this is part of what helps them to chill out on the more volatile expressions of that aspect and begin to cultivate the constructive expressions.

When exploring a planetary pair in depth, I always wind up feeling that we’ve barely scratched the surface. There’s always so much more to discover and to convey. This is certainly true of the exceptional individuals with Mars–Uranus aspects. I hope that this interpretation inspires you to do your own research and thinking, so you’ll be ready when Mars–Uranus denizens invade your astrology practice — or when friends and relatives who are parents or grandparents of the 2003 crop of babies ask you what sort of brave new world these kids have entered.

Where To Find Love In Your Astrology Chart

No single aspect in the chart explains all the complexities of who and how we love. Not only do all aspects (connections) to Venus or Mars need to be considered, but also their sign and house placements. For a deeper understanding of relationships and how they play out in a person’s life, we also need to look at the condition of any planets in the 7th, 8th, and 5th houses AND the rulers of those houses.

When considering the total relationship picture, you’d also look for planets aspecting the Ascendant/Descendant axis—that is, to the degrees on the cusps of the 1st and 7th houses. Since these house cusps are precisely opposite one another, any planet that aspects the Ascendant also aspects the Descendant. The quality of relationships with people you care about can be strongly affected by planets that form aspects to this axis. The Descendant and 7th house planets are similar in concern to Venus, since their primary function is in forming committed relationships. Thus, having Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto in the 7th house or forming an aspect to the Ascendant-Descendant axis would be similar to an aspect between Venus and that outer planet. If the planet is Uranus, for instance, read the chapter on Venus-Uranus aspects to understand what that connection contributes to the person’s relationship patterns.

Conjunctions to the Ascendant or Descendant are the most powerful modifiers—they’re like doormen that people have to check in with for admittance into the person’s inner life. Trines to that axis show social assets that attract people, as do sextiles. Squares and semi-squares are like security checkpoints along the way, because they can show how people run into conflict with their environment.

Few of us have only a single aspect to Venus or Mars, and celebrity heart-throbs generally have several, which is part of the reason they engage our hearts and fascinate us over any length of time. Given that each individual is extremely complex—as complex as the totality of a natal chart—then what happens when two people relate is complicated indeed. So, no, looking at a single Venus or Mars aspect doesn’t begin to cover all the dimensions of our relationships.

In my astrological practice over the past 40 years, I’ve seen thousands of people with each major Venus and Mars aspect, but let’s use Venus square Neptune as an example. The details may vary considerably, but the over-all dynamics tend to be the same, as are the results. Maybe the bohemian earth mother in New York’s Soho district with Venus in Cancer square Neptune in Libra tries to nurture the sensitive artist. He smokes pot daily and can’t seem to paint any more but won’t marry her because he’s married to his art.

Perhaps the gal in the trailer park with Venus in Sagittarius square Neptune in Virgo loves a biker who does speed. He’s always on the road with his motorcycle gang and only visits her in the middle of the night when the rest of the gang has passed out and he’s wanting a little loving. Then, for contrast, there’s the socialite with Venus in Capricorn square Neptune in Libra whose 40-year-old lover works 70 hours a week and drinks himself insensible to unwind. He’s out of town on a business trip and forgets her birthday, and he won’t commit until he makes his first million. Then he finally makes the million, but devastates Ms. Venus-Neptune square when he ups and marries a 23-year-old trophy wife instead.

As you can see, the details are very, very different. The sign and house of Venus have everything do with who plucks at our heartstrings—why the one with Venus in Capricorn goes for up-and-coming executives, while the one with Venus in Sag can’t resist biker after biker. Yet, how different is the bottom line? All three of these individuals with Venus-Neptune squares wind up repeatedly getting involved with men who can’t commit, who have an addiction or two, and who aren’t there in vital ways that leave the woman feeling drained, used, and unloved. As crucial as the details admittedly are to the individual, the pattern is what is instructive. The patterns I’ve discerned over the years give me an idea of what may be going on with the next Venus-Neptune man or woman who calls in anguish about that elusive current lover.

Plan to Move? Ask a Relocation Astrologer

More and more people are contacting me these days for an astrology reading because they want a new lease on life. That new lease might include a better place to live, start a home business, make money, or retire.

Sometimes they’re just fed up with the area where they live, the people they work or associate with, themselves for staying there too long, the quality of life or lack thereof, and they want out of Dodge NOW.

Astrology is one perspective on finding your best city, location, or place here or overseas. It’s not the only one. I want to point that out. Checking your daily horoscope for entertainment is one thing, making a major life change - that’s another story.

This article is from notes taken just recently from a conversation between relocation astrologer Cait Benten - that’s me - and my friend Christine Troward.

Cait, what can people expect from a relocation astrology reading?

When you contact me, I know you want to find your best city or location in which to work, have a successful career, perhaps start a home based business, raise your family in safety, or retire and so one of the first questions I’m usually asked is, “What is relocation astrology? What is it you do?”

What information do you need to do a relocation astrology reading?

Relocation astrology begins with your birth chart - what we astrologers call your natal chart. Where were you born? What was the EXACT time of your birth. Check your birth certificate. I spend long hours moving your birth chart to find what appears to be your best places in the world to live. It’s a long, exacting, and tedious process, and it takes many hours to find the best places that are a match to your natal chart.

What about those inexpensive computer programs? What are their limitations?

A computer program isn’t going to find what I’m looking for when I work on your astrology chart. There are too many variables and computer programs aren’t intuitive. This is why I interview you and ask what you’re looking for in your life, all this happens before I begin your astrology reading which I record and send to you. You listen, then we follow that up with a session where you ask me all your questions.

As I understand it, your astrology readings don’t tell people they have to move to a certain place to be successful.

I’ll tell you up front that even your most favorable location will present its own unique set of challenges. Oh that life were perfect! Before you visit or move to a certain place, I’ll encourage you to count the costs.

Relocation astrology is not about packing up and moving merely because I tell you “This appears to be your most favorable location.” I’ll encourage you to COUNT THE COSTS before you move. Are you ready for what will be a major life change? Each move I’ve ever made has required a settling in and adjustment period and I’m sure this will also be true for you.

Moving requires a lot of planning and thought before packing your things and going somewhere, doesn’t it? Moving becomes even more complicated if you’re moving overseas, although more and more Americans are retiring overseas.

You’ve moved now! Getting settled into your new area is only the first phase of many new things to deal with including a decision that may include purchasing a home, registering your vehicles, finding where schools are located, and it’s so much easier if, when you move, you already have a job lined up, unless you’re retired. If retired, how much are you going to miss seeing your children or grandchildren? Some handle this issue better than others.

Do you use Astrocartography or Vedic Relocation astrology in your work? I notice lots of people like to have their Astrocartography chart done.

I know both systems but over the years I’ve incorporated the best techniques I’ve come across. I rely on my intuition and higher wisdom though when looking at a difficult chart. That’s the only way to break through what seems like insurmountable obstacle in a person’s astrology reading.

Do you ever get the sense people want you to make the decision about what they do for them?

I won’t do that and neither will any other reputable relocation astrologer. Check my disclaimer page at http:www.astro-earth-relocation.com and you’ll see where I’m honest in telling you that “WHEREVER we move our EMOTIONAL SELVES travel with us.” Some people, more than others, will need medical, financial, and emotional counseling and I urge you to use these professional resources if your life situation requires such assistance.

The other day a woman said to me, “I want you to send us to a place where my husband doesn’t do drugs any more.” I pleasantly but firmly had to tell her “Your husband makes his own choices in life. I refuse to be responsible for whether your marriage does or does not work.”

As a relocation astrologer I’ll tell you that our lives, no matter where we live, become what we determine to make of them. The wonderfulness of an area is dependent on you and how you treat others as much as how they treat you. Wherever you go, there you are.

A new location, however, may provide you with a new lease on life. Maybe it is time, after all these years, to get out of Dodge City and find a place you appreciate and where you are appreciated.

Do you find that some people are set in their ways and resist any suggestions, which is what they are, suggestions only, that you see as a good location to in their chart.

When you call me for a relocation astrology session I’ll use everything I know to help you find your best place or city. I’ve had a handful of clients who, after I searched and searched for days finding a match for them based on the movement of their natal or birth chart would say, “I don’t like that place.” “My children won’t like it.” My husband says the people in Tucson aren’t friendly.” I’ve heard people make judgments about places they’ve never been to, a case of being too opinionated about areas they know nothing about.

It’s odd to hear a relocation astrologer admit this but there have been a handful of people I’ve done astrology charts for and there is NO one best place for them to live and I’ve told them that. Maybe there’s a second or third best place where they would have a very good life, so just know I’ll be honest with you about my findings.

If I tell you Santa Barbara looks favorable based on your natal or birth chart and you say, “Not Santa Barbara,” or “Oh no, not Austin, Texas,” then, after I’ve pointed out all your best geographical areas I’ll say “Use your intuition then. There are no other places I know to send you.”

Why do you think relocation astrology is a valuable tool, even though you’ve told me on other occasions that it is only one of many tools that might be helpful to a person looking for that next place to call home?

Even though I’m a little more expensive than some other astrologers, I’ve been unbelievably busy since starting Astro-Earth-Relocation five years ago, so I don’t solicit or advertise for clients any more.

Reputation is everything?

It helps, but you only build a reputation by doing great work for your clients. Most of my business is now word-of-mouth recommendations from former clients.

Do you tell people they must move to find success or love, make money, or be happy?

No. Nor do I tell them they have to make this move by such and such date. I do tell my clients to ask themselves, “What would happen if you were happy now and didn’t move at all? Would that disappoint you?” Some people are restless for change. That’s not a good reason move. Happiness is an inside job; you have to provide your own inner cabin pressure no matter where you live.

I’ll close my article about relocation astrology, which I do hope you’re curious enough to try, just to experience this kind of unique astrology reading, with a quote from my friend James Clayton Napier uses to open his marvelous article Business & Career: Know Your Ruling Star which you can read on the web:

“Know your Ruling Star. One man [or woman] is better received by one nation than another, or is one welcome by one city than another. He finds more luck in one office or position than in another, and all though his qualifications are equal or even identical. Let each man know his luck as well as his talents. Follow your guiding star and help it without mistaking any other for it. Know how to transplant yourself. There are nations with whom one must cross their borders to make one’s value felt.”

Daily Astrology for the Week of Oct 15, 2007 - General Tendencies for All Sun Signs

Mon 10/15/07 Enjoy the Love and Beauty Around Us

We may awaken this morning feeling like we did not get any rest through the night. But, once we get going, it could be another optimistic day. It will be a rather pleasant day, and we may want to express just how pleasant it is. Group projects will go well, and trips could turn into adventures. Creative projects will also go well. There could be some sudden emotional upsets for those of us up late tonight. All in all, it will be a great day to enjoy the love and the beauty around us.

Tue 10/16/07 Express Yourself!

We may be craving adventure today and feeling a bit restless. It will be an excellent day for expression, be it art or conversation. And, we will find pleasure in creative pursuits, or even just having fun. Relations with the opposite sex will go well this afternoon, but there could be some emotional upsets this evening. We may want some quiet time tonight.

Wed 10/17/07 Get Down to Some Serious Work

We will be ready to get down to some serious work today. It will be and excellent day for business. We may want to take a look at our goals, roll up our sleeves, and get organized. There will be an air of patience about, late this morning into early afternoon. But, we may lose some of our energy this evening, or we may overdo it. Our moods could turn to beauty tonight. We may decide to do some redecorating, or maybe a facial and a long bath.

Thu 10/18/07 Organizing and Serious Conversations

It will be an excellent day to take a look at our long-term goals and make some plans. We may get an extra spark of inspiration this morning to launch us into our day. Business deals will go well, and contracts will be fair and understood. Some of us may be a bit overly cautious or pessimistic today, and we may have to force ourselves to take a break and have some fun. But, all in all, a good day for organizing and serious conversations.

Fri 10/19/07 New Solutions to Old Problems

Its going to be a rather quiet morning. This morning would be good for looking over projects and paperwork, or for routine chores. We will get our inspiration early this afternoon, and we may be in the mood for something different. If we are willing to follow-through with some of those ideas, we may find that we come up with some new answers to our problems. Those solutions could be in group projects, or we may just want to spend some time with friends. It will be a great night for breaking tradition, so try something new.

Sat 10/20/07 Connect to the Artist Inside Ourselves

We may be feeling rather inspired today, and if we want to put some effort in, we may find out we are more creative than we thought we were. Schedules will probably not work today, so try to go with the flow. There is a tendency to become overly fanatical, so try to maintain your balance. All in all, an excellent day to connect to the artist within.

Sun 10/21/07 Enlightening Discussions this Afternoon - Sensitive Issues Tonight

It could be a topsy-turvy day, and schedules may have to be readjusted. We will want to be seen as the unique individuals we are, so go ahead, and wear those green shoes! We may participate in some enlightening discussions this afternoon, and there will be good relations with the opposite sex. Our moods will change this evening, and we may want to talk about sensitive issues. It will be an excellent night for a psychic reading, or to spend some time in mediation and prayer.

Chinese Astrology - Year and Month Breaker

In ancient time, the Chinese had discovered to their amazement that the universe is made up of energy fields known to them as “Qi”. They believed that the Sun, Moon, Earth and other planets in the Solar System radiate cosmic energy which is constantly changing over time depending on the relative positions of the planets.

The discovery had led to the creation of the Chinese calendar which is based on the movement of this cosmic energy. The Chinese charted this cosmic energy into 22 energy pillars known as the Ten Heavenly Stems and Twelve Earthly Branches (equivalent to Twelve Zodiac signs). From these combinations of heavenly stems and earthly branches, the Chinese Solar Calendar (Hsia) is derived which is quite similar to the western Gregorian calendar as it is also based on the earth’s orbit around the sun. However, instead of starting the year on the 1st of January, the Chinese Solar Calendar begins the year on the 1st day of Spring which falls on or around the 4th Feb. This calendar is also used in the practice of Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology known as the Four Pillars of Destiny.

Based on a person’s date and time of birth, the influence of this cosmic energy on the newborn is said to chart the destiny and characteristics of that particular person.

So how does the Chinese Solar Calendar determine whether a day is good or bad?

It is the days when the Zodiac sign of the year clashes with the Zodiac sign of the day.

The twelve Zodiac signs and their clashes are as follows:-

Rat clashes with Horse

Ox clashes with Goat

Tiger clashes with Monkey

Rabbit clashes with Rooster

Dragon clashes with Dog

Snake clashes with Pig

For instance, in the year of the Pig (solar year 2007), the Pig clashes with the Snake of the day. Therefore, a person who is born in the year of the Pig will have a bad day on the day of the Snake. Therefore, any Snake days in 2007 is called a Year Breaker day and it is deemed inauspicious.

There is also the Month Breaker day. This happens when the Zodiac of the month clashes with the Zodiac of the day. For example, in the month of the Dog (9th solar month), the Dog clashes with the Dragon of the day. Therefore, any Dragon days in the 9th solar month is a Month Breaker day and it is considered inauspicious.

This is just one quick and simple way in a complicated system of date selection used in Chinese Astrology.
