How Do I Become A Music Video Dancer?

You see the dancers on TV dancing behind Britney or Justin Timberlake. You\’re inspired to take up dancing so that you can become just like your idols. And you find that pretty soon, you wouldn\’t mind being up there yourself dancing with your very idols.

Sounds cool doesn\’t it? Dancing in music videos or doing backing dancing is the dream of most aspiring dancers and if you\’re reading this probably yours as well. After all when you\’ve danced in a music video, that\’s when you know you\’ve made it, right? But how do you actually do it and find yourself on TV screens across the country?

Well there are a variety of ways. Some of them super glamorous such as being spotted by a very intelligent scout who obviously knows talent when they see it and says that\’s you.

If this happens to you, congratulations, you\’ve truly had it made. But for the rest of the people out there, there are ways to appear in a music video that are within your control. Being scouted is generally the exception rather than the rule.

The most common route is to go and find a good agent or agency who will find dance auditions for you. Most top dance jobs come through agencies who will put you forward for jobs that match your skills and attributes.

The first rule of thumb when applying for dance agencies is to make sure you\’re good enough. There is no point in auditioning for agencies if you\’ve just stumbled into the industry and just picked up 1 or 2 dance moves from a dance class. Auditions are tough and you\’ll need to be good to go through.

Different agencies work differently. Most will ask you to send through your CV and professional pictures. If they like the look of you and what you have to offer they may offer you a place on their agency immediately. Especially if you\’ve done a lot of high-profile work or are otherwise a well-known dancer.

It\’s more than likely though that most agencies will invite you to an audition to become represented by their agency. There are often many dancers at these auditions, especially for the well known agencies where it\’s not unusual to have several hundred auditionees.

If you do well at the audition they may then decide to take you on. And then they\’ll start putting you forward for work and sending you to auditions where you\’re auditioning for specific jobs such as music videos.

There are some agencies which will insist that you do not need any experience. You should be cautious with these agencies. By all means have a look to see what they have to offer, but exercise special caution. Many operate on the basis that you give them some money to get a place on their agency books, and then they won\’t send you on any auditions at all. Generally you should not pay to join an agency, if you do make sure they have a good record and send their people to good auditions.

There will also sometimes be open auditions and castings which means that you do not need to be with any agency and anyone is free to attend the audition. Open auditions can be very packed, but if you don\’t have an agent yet then you\’ll have to go to these auditions to start building up your CV and if you want to find work. They can be advertised in newspapers, websites and notice boards.

So all in all, it is possible to succeed and get work without being represented by an agent or agency, but a good agency can help your career tremendously by sending you out on a lot of quality music video auditions which can only be attended via an agency.

Ryan Heddik has enjoyed a successful dance career dancing on TV numerous times and is the author of the groundbreaking e-book\’ Dance In A Pop Video.\’ The book teaches aspiring dancers the exact process they can follow to find work in music videos with tried and tested principles that actually work. Compare Camera Features - A Simple Guide

People often throw their hands up in disgust when they try to discover how to find the best digital camera. Even as you compare camera features, the camera megapixels, the models and the performance, the search for models that fit your budget and offer the features you are interested in is a daunting task. Taking pictures should be simple! Here are some tips to help you through the process.

MEGAPIXELS. When investigating how to find the best digital camera, one of the most significant aspects of your hunt is the amount of camera megapixels. The higher the megapixels the more superior the actual photograph will come out. A megapixel is equal to to one million pixels. The resolution of your image is based upon the mega pixel property of your camera. This means that as you enlarge the picture, you fewer blurry colors.

LCD SIZE. The most optimal cameras will always have a large LCD to help you frame your portrait without having to squint into the viewfinder. This is also important when reviewing your images. Some models provide touch-up and editing features with its LCD. A 1.5-inch display is average, a 2-inch LCD is good, but the most optimal LCD size would be 2.5 inches or more.

ZOOM. Almost all cameras have both digital and optical zoom. A higher optical zoom is as a rule more superior than a higher digital zoom. Digital cameras are usually furnished with optical of between 3x to 10x. The better the optical zoom, the higher it climbs into the best digital camera category. measure camera features side by side when you find two or three models that have the zoom features you require.

MEMORY CARD. Always make sure that your memory card is the proper type for your camera. There are different types of memory card and certain ones go with different varieties of digital cameras. Likewise, memory storage is also very important in choosing the best. Purchase the size that you need. If you\’re a photo hound, you might need more than 32MB. Memory cards can go up to 1G.

When considering how to find the best digital camera, understand the best one is the one that you will like and use. Not the type that you\’ll just leave sitting in its box after a few weeks of usage. The key point in searching for the best camera is to buy one that will best fit you and your requirements. Don\’t just buy the latest one or those that proclaim they are the best digital camera on the market. Do consider the number of camera megapixels, compare camera features and investigate the overall performance.

You also don\’t want to buy the latest compact point and shoot camera when you\’re serious about being a professional photographer, nor is the best deal going to offer you with the best quality photo. Resolution, zoom, memory capacity, LCD size, the level of quality and professional function are the keys to deciding the finest camera for you.

People often throw their hands up in disgust when they try to discover how to find the best digital camera. Even as you compare camera features, the camera megapixels, the models and the performance, the search for models that fit your budget and offer the features you are interested in is a daunting task. Is Your Bad Luck Misfortune or Stupidity?

“Why does this always happen to me?” “Because you\’re stupid.”

Harsh? Perhaps. But it may also be quite true. I learned this first hand recently when I almost lost a year\’s worth of work to an “unfortunate” computer error. While the computer problem would have been due to a hardware failure, the loss of data would have been due solely to my own idiocy.

Here then, is the case for stupidity…

People\’s exhibit #1:

I\’m in the shower, and for some reason at that moment I think to myself, “you know, I haven\’t backed up my hard drive in a while, I should do that today.” Why did that thought come to me while I was in the shower? Who knows. Like many people, I do my best thinking there. If I could figure out a way of moving my office into my shower and getting the hot water to last more than 10 minutes, then I would in fact, become the most brilliant person on the face of the earth. As the rest of the article demonstrates, that is clearly not the case.

This thought occurs to me while I am showering, but a few minutes later, after I have dried off, dressed, and shaved, all thoughts of backing up my computer are long gone.

To be fair, my hair follicles burst out of my face with the ferocity and speed of an alien baby bursting from John Hurt\’s chest, so shaving can be a long process for me. But still, it\’s at most twenty minutes later, and I am back at my computer without a thought in the world of backing up my hard drive…

People\’s exhibit #2:

I am driving in my car, and for some reason at that moment I think to myself, “you know, I still haven\’t backed up my hard drive. I should do that today.” Driving time is second only to shower time when it comes to quality thinking time. If I could get my office into my car, then I would be really cooking. (and if I could create some kind of “driveable automobile shower,” I think I could solve all the mysteries of the universe). Unfortunately, it\’s not just being in the car that helps, but rather the actual act of driving. This would make things like writing articles and taking mid-workday naps very difficult and dangerous.

In any case, this brilliant insightful occurs to me while I am driving, so you can guess what I did as soon as I returned. That\’s right: nothing. By the time I got back, my mind had moved on to other critical issues like, “What was the name of the guy who played the police lieutenant in the original Terminator movie?” The hard drive was a forgotten memory. (if you\’re playing along at home, the lieutenant was played by Paul Winfield).

People\’s exhibit #3:

I am sitting on my couch watching TV and for some reason at that moment I think to myself, “you know, I still haven\’t backed up my hard drive. I should do that today.” I don\’t actually do my best thinking on my couch, or any thinking at all, really, but this thought came to me due to the fact that I have a home office. My computer is always only a few steps away from me. So now the thought is in my head at a moment where I can get up and immediately run a backup. I am sure that you can guess what I did…that\’s right: nothing.

There were three *insurmountable* obstacles that kept me from running the back up right then:

1) My couch is a little old, so there is an ever so-slight indentation where I sit, which means it takes .0005% more effort to get up. May not seem like much, but inertia\’s a tricky thing.

2) When watching an episode of American Idol, turning away is hard - I think they emit a hypnotic ray that makes it impossible to stop watching these amazingly bad singers.

3) (and this is the truly brilliant one) I thought to myself, “The computer has been working fine, it can wait….” Famous last words, like, “Come on, we can take \’em Colonel Custer!” and “It\’s ok, Mr. Nixon, no one will ever find out.”

People\’s exhibit #4:

Cut to a nice weekday morning, when I hit the power switch on my computer and see the gloriously depressing sentence, “Primary Drive 0 failure,” splayed on my screen.

“Hmmm, this shouldn\’t be. Let\’s try again.”

Once again…”Primary Drive 0 failure.”

So now my computer is refusing to work. This is not good. As you may have picked up, I haven\’t backed my machine up in little while. All I can think to myself is, “I am such an idiot. I should have backed this up!”

I try the computer a few more times, and nothing. If you have been in the self-improvement/motivational world for more than a day, you have heard insanity defined as, “doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.” Wanting to prove my sanity to the “pithy motivational sayings Gods,” I stop hitting the power button hoping for a different response. Instead, I spring into action like the “professional speaker who speaks on how to quickly react to the unexpected,” I am by packing up my computer and taking it to show to a friend who has all sorts of diagnostic tools to analyze this sort of thing.

Here\’s the interesting resolution to the story. We hook the computer up at his place and it boots up fine. I swear it did not work at my place! While there, I back up a few critical folders (like the “electronic gold” that is the folder containing all of the past “Improvised Musings” Newsletter :-) ), pack it up again, and bring it back to my office. Hook it up, hit the power switch, and it boots up just fine.

Nothing changed, but trying it the exact same way netted a different result. So much for the definition of insanity. This just goes to show how accurate pithy motivational sayings can be.

I\’d like to think that the Universe was giving me a warning shot, smacking me in the head, and telling me, “hey Einstein, get off your lazy moronic behind and take the 15 minutes to run the backup.” (I did)

I could not have foreseen the hardware failure. That was a truly unexpected event. But I could have easily done the work to turn what could have been a four day delay into a one hour one.

The verdict:

Guilty as charged.

How many times does this happen to all of us? Life will always throw us curve balls, but oftentimes it is our own lack of preparation that gets us stuck. Many people respond by throwing their hands up and saying, “why does this always happen to me!” or, “I knew this would happen!” Well, if you knew this would happen, you should have done something about it…

One of my taglines is, “planning is important, but improvising is essential.” In my speeches, I of course focus on improvising. However, never forget that planning is in fact important. And the better you prepare (not obsess, just prepare), the easier it is to improvise.

Now maybe I should do something about that “Check Engine” light that keeps popping up when I\’m driving…

William Burroughs (a Glance at “Cities of the Red Night\’)

…his outward vision, I\’m not sure exactly what that is, and to be frank, I doubt he ever knew (Mr. Burroughs died in 1997, about four months after his old sidekick Allen Ginsberg kick the bucket): perhaps he actually believed, and I believe he believed, his vision was his concern of or for society, civilization, their deadly march to the inferno, but I can\’t believe that, not down deep anyhow. Anyone who has read Burroughs, knows he is already in the inferno, he need not look for it in the cities for us throughout the world, or South America, if anything, his books are full of nasty words-and his homosexual desires, drives and tendencies-the book should be rated for sex, a triple-X, as in this book I am talking about, nothing new on the corner; it should only be sold in a porno stores; I suppose someone will say, as always: you don\’t need to read it. That is an argument in itself, and in this article I do not have time to confront that saying, or issue.

Anyhow, I wish he\’d smile in his pictures a little more-and nothing is ever said much on love and kindness, just nasty words, and how everybody, and everything, is wrong, perhaps he got off on the wrong planet upon birth, he should have jumped off going by Utopia (there are a lot of \’if only\’ and \’but (s)\’ in his written pages. He lives in a world of \’what if\’…he actually should have stayed in one of those third world countries, and fought for freedom and equality there instead of blaming it all on America. Had he wrote in 1981, what he wrote in this book, in Russia, he would not have lived to see 1982, or China for that matter, or Cambodia, Cuba, Zimbabwe, a few countries in South America, and so forth. Thus, what I see in this book is more of his inward look at his sadistic contempt for his soul, society, and America (he talks too much in this book on these issues) which is to me a gift from God (all three), and of course he is God, in his world, what a way to live, and die; on the other hand his soul I trust in on an apocalyptic trip to nowhere in this book he is telling us, what we already know in a childish tale, looking for disaster and hoping to find it to prove to God all us humans, are deadbeats except him.

I think he would have loved to take all the causalities of his books with him, on this trip, in the \’Cities of the Red Night,\’ his Beat followers, in particular, and bring them into his mindset, which is pride and disaster. And the book is a nasty trip to boot. Furthermore, after enmeshing those who have read, “Cities of the Red Night,” into his little nest, I\’m sure he\’d try to sell them some more of his nastiness. It took him ten-years to write the book, the pages must have about 150-words per page, and about 325-pages, that is about 31-pages a year, or a few pages a month, or a paragraph a day, sorry to say, the book could have been written overnight the way it reads, what a waste of a decade.

The story starts in the year 1848, and it is of course Captain Mission (what an obvious, and silly name, he needs to be original, not stupid sounding, that is a name I\’d had picked out of a hat, at the age of ten), anyhow, he makes the first comment. On the second page we get into a misplaced society talk, it doesn\’t take him long. He thinks he is a Margo Polo, or perhaps James Michener, in this book, yet he is still old nasty Burroughs. As you get into the second and third chapters, the rotgut sex comes into play, as nasty as nasty can be. This guys mind was in the sewer when he was born, and died, where this book belongs.

Online Stock Photography - Quick Resource Guide

A picture is worth a thousand words - or so saying goes. Indeed, the right photos can bring copy to life. But with today\’s time and budgetary constraints, it\’s often not practical or possible to hire a photographer to get the pictures you need. That\’s why, whether you\’re a website designer, an art director for a print publication, or even a photographer, online stock photography has much to offer.

Buying Online Pictures

For the uninitiated, stock photography is often known as royalty free photography. In other words, those who want to buy the pictures do not have exclusive rights to use them. The upside is that royalty free pictures and illustrations cost only a tiny fraction of the price of an exclusive photo or the cost of hiring a photographer to take the shot.

Better yet, when compared to only a decade ago, even royalty free pictures have come down in price. Thanks to digital photography and high-speed Internet connections, you no longer have to buy an entire stock photography CD (and wait for it to be shipped to you) to get the shot you want. Instead, you can buy only the photos you need and download them immediately. Prices can range from two dollars for a small photo (500 pixels on the longest side) to twelve dollars for a large photo (a minimum of 1600 pixels on the longest side). Similarly, the cost of illustrations ranges from about three dollars to about twenty dollars.

So, in what ways can you use online stock photography? Each photography site has its own licensing terms, but generally you can use the pictures for your own business, in print publications, on websites, in marketing and promotional materials, in PowerPoint presentations, and in film and television. You can also use them for materials you prepare for your clients. Online stock photography sites typically prohibit you from re-selling or distributing pictures, using them as part of a template that you sell, or on packaging for commercial products.

Selling Pictures

If you\’re a photographer, you probably already have a collection of stock photographs. Signing up with an online stock photography site is a painless way to increase your revenue stream and gain exposure for your work. Typically, a royalty free site requires that you complete an online application and submit three sample images. Once the site accepts your submission, you can begin selling your stock photos.

To sell your pictures online, a site normally requires that the photographs be your own work and that you hold the copyright to each image you sell. For photos of people, the site may require a standard model release. Typically, the site handles all of the sales, promotion, customer support, and transaction issues, and you receive half the fee from each sale. Generally, you get paid once your sales reach a certain dollar amount (the threshold for many site is fifty dollars).

Photography adds warmth and vibrancy to everything from simple brochures to complex websites. Images instantly express concepts and emotions, and can quickly capture a reader\’s attention. With online stock photography, it\’s easy to bring your work to life.

Art Collecting for the Beginner

Collecting fine art is an inspiring and stimulating hobby for everyone, not just for the rich or famous. There are many forms of art to choose from, as the definition to what art actually is differs from person to person. It doesn\’t matter what form it takes, the choice is yours in what is attractive and how much your spending limit will be.

As an artist going to college in New York, it has been apparent to me that some aficionados of art may look down on others for their differing tastes in art. For example, there are those who only buy originals, and never prints. For enjoyment purposes, an original isn\’t necessary to own if the price is out of your budget. Prints are a great way to own framed art that looks lovely on your wall, as an original would, at a fraction of the price. Ok, you won\’t have the same texture to the painting (the surface of an original can show texture and dimension, whereas a print won\’t). But, a well printed piece of artwork is not settling by all means. My walls are graced with the art prints of other artists, bought fairly inexpensively online, at art fairs and galleries. They are tasteful and not cheap looking.

When you find a print or original that you like, you can either frame it yourself or have someone else do it for you. Frames come in a huge price range, from the lower priced metal frames to the ornate, hand carved wooden frames that can cost big bucks. Using a mat, which is a way of framing the picture inside the frame using illustration board or papers, can set off or detract from your print. For those who don\’t know framing, take your picture and have it framed first, then watch how they offer you various mats and frame styles. Take your time and choose what color combination of mat, frame and artwork would look tasteful and appropriate in your home. For a clean, contemporary look, a good type is the inexpensive but still elegant Nielsen brushed metal frame. They come in many colors, but black or bronze are safe to start with. When selling my artwork in galleries, I use bronze ones because they make my art look good, and don\’t cost a fortune. After all, many people who buy art in galleries have the art re-framed after they buy it, to match their home décor. If wood is more your style, there are some lovely, natural, stained wood frames. My preference is cherry or mahogany for my home, because they have a deep, rich reddish color that looks elegant. The style you choose is up to you, just remember that you\’ll be living with it for awhile, and so think of what you want to see on your wall for an extended period of time. You can re-frame later, of course, but to save money, choose something that you\’ll be happy with so that won\’t be necessary later.

Whether you like prints, originals or other forms of art, enjoy whatever you choose. To me, the purpose of art is to enrich our surroundings, add beauty to a room and convey a mood or interest. Everyone has their own views, so go with what stirs your emotions or interest. Have a budget in mind and stick to it, as most art is for personal use, not for investment. If you buy the work of someone famous, the piece may have value but who knows what tomorrow will bring. So, first and foremost, go with what interests you. That way, if reselling it isn\’t going to give you much (if any) profit later, it will still make your wall look beautiful, As a professional artist, I want my clients to love their purchases, and be happy that they own whatever they bought from me. Other artists want you to be happy too. Art is for enjoying, so don\’t be afraid to try collecting. Chances are, you\’ll be hooked once you do.

Celtic Butterfly Tattoos - Cool, Colorful, & Symbolic

The legend of Etain was the inspiration for numerous Celtic butterfly tattoos. This legend is a story that symbolizes love, treachery and transformation.

Celtic butterfly tattoos are attractive, colorful and very distinctive. Although these tattoo designs are generally more favored by women, there are some men who also get fascinated by the versatility of this design. It is for this reason that the Celtic butterfly tattoo is usually incorporated in a lot of tattoo themes and designs among both men and women. In fact, it is a relatively common concept in tattoo art. It looks good whether it is worn alone or used as an add-on.

There are many ways in which the Celtic butterfly tattoo can be enhanced and styled. In fact, Celts are popular for a lot of knot work designs. This is because knots are symbolisms of the continuity of the life cycle. The Celtic butterfly tattoo can be done by forming the knots to form the image of a butterfly.

Celtic butterflies also symbolize resurrection or life after death. For some, they symbolize metamorphosis and beautiful transformation or change. However, in Ireland, butterflies also symbolize dead souls waiting to enter the purgatory.

In the world of tattoo art, Celtic butterfly tattoos symbolize the positive aspects of life such as grace and peace contrary to other people\’s beliefs which associate butterfly with death and rebirth. These symbolisms only add up to the beauty and mystery of the butterfly design. People can never guess exactly what it means to the person wearing it.

One good thing about the Celtic butterfly tattoo is its beauty and diversity. You can experiment well with its colors and shape. Its versatility makes it suitable in any part of the body. The lower back and a small area behind the shoulder, along one side of the upper back are popular spots for this tattoo design.

Many women are drawn by the beauty and symbolic nature of the Celtic butterfly tattoo. It is suitable for every person\’s unique personality and beliefs. Moreover, it also signifies the beauty and freedom of life. Open-winged Celtic butterfly tattoos are more common and popular than the close-winged designs.
